Anyone know how to locate a caregiver for a bone marrow transplant patient at the UMC? |
In order to receive the transplant, University of AZ Med center requires that the patient have a 24 hour caregiver. Please direct me to where I can find out if AZ state insurance would cover the cost of a caregiver 24 hours a day. The patient can't work any more. If insurance doesn't pay, what's the most economical way to find a caregiver for several months? Any suggestions how I could find a student this summer that's possibly studying to be a nurse? Check the Internet for in home caregiver. If that doesn't work then try looking in the phone book for an organization for in-home-care. I live in Kansas and there are dozens of different organizations such as SKIL (Southeast Kansas Independent Living) and some of the others are RCIL, Independent Living, Angel Care, etc. Check with the Employment Agency in the area. They should be able to help. Most of the in-home organizations work on the clients disability and their income (which might mean you won't pay anything). I hope you can find someone. My prayers are with you and good luck. Check at a local college for rn students who have already been through lpn school and can do that while doing their rn course. They should be able to take care of patients of that caliber and maybe get credit for it. It doesn't have to be a nurse, you could hire a cnt, which is a nuses aid. Or post in paper for someone to stay 8 hr, shift a nusing student doesn't know as much as a CNT. You could go to www.craigslist.com and ask if someone would be willing to caregive in return for room and board. I hope that would help. In the meantime apply for SSI. It maybe a process, but it should help a tiny bit. For longterm possibly medicaid will kick in. God bless |
