How long does it take to become a Theatre Nurse?

How long is the study time to become a theatre nurse in the hospital?

Three years if you do the diploma. Or you could do the ODP course

Hi, I'm a theatre nurse and I did an adult diploma in nursing which took 3 years. After you are a registered nurse, you are free to work in theatres but the jobs are tough to come by because of ODPs (Operating Department Practitioners). This is a 2 year course specialising in theatres. However, this course is harder to get onto as there are very limited places and you have to pay uni fees.

If I were you, I would do the nursing course as you have a career for life. This does not qualify you specifically to work in theatres as sometimes students dont get theatre placements but some theatres will take you and train you up to do scrub or recovery after you are qualified. If you want to do anaesthetics, you will have to do an additional 3 month course. This is why ODPs are favoured because they learn it all on their course and dont need additional training.
