What are some good resources for people with OCD?

My mother is studying to become a nurse, and while studying psychiatric disorders, she read a description of OCD that led her to believe that I have it. At first, I was in denial, but after I read part of a book about it, the description seems to fit me to a T! What are some good resources for people with obsessive compulsive disorder?

I really encourage you to consider seeking a thorough evaluation by a psychologist. If he/she refers you to a psychiatrist for medication, do not hesitate to pursue it. It can make a significant difference in your quality of life.

In the meantime, head to your local library and check out a copy of The Anxiety and Phobia workbook by Bourne. It is an oldie but a goodie, and offers several practical exercises that may help you manage some of the anxiety that can be associated with OCD.

when you have OCD you don't kinda have it. YOU HAVE IT. I mean it's very noticeable. You would have know you had it before now. But one of the ways of getting over OCD is not benefiting the habit. Look at WEB-MD.

Read the book "BRAIN LOCK" by Dr. Schwartz. It contains good info about what OCD is & how to use cognitive-behavioral techniques to help better manage it. It could be the most important book you read about the topic. Also, a good nonfiction book "REWIND. REPLAY. REPEAT" by Jeff Bell is an acoount of a radio host who has struggled with OCD. It is inspirational.

I think it's common that people reading about these things begin to think they can diagnose people. That isn't always the case.
OCD has certain criteria you have to have, certain patterns of behaviors, before you can be said to be OCD.
Change the behavior, PRESTO! No criteria, no OCD.
Behaviors are CHOICES. No meds needed.
