Where can we get good information for her for free ???? Look for used books, they are much cheaper. GOOD LUCK!!! She needs the books to complete the program...check into financial aid...grants and student loans Have you tried Ebay?
Craigslist?
Freecycle groups?
Try going to a vet office and asking their advice. try ebay or libracy or try used books good luck dude Your girlfriend can frequent second hand bookstores near the school where she is studying. She can also purchase second hand books from the school library (usually).
I also recommend putting a "starving student needs used textbooks... help!" ad in the school paper and up on the bulletin boards at the school.
Good luck to her. See if the program has a book exchange or look for flyers around the school for people selling their old books. You can usually get them a lot cheaper that way.
Also see if any library around you has them and check them out. You can renew as long as you are taking the course. It's free, but keep in mind that if you keep renewing the book, you may be keeping it from someone who needs it.
Lastly, I'd check places like Amazon's UK site. For some reason, textbooks seem to be cheaper in other countries. Make sure you verify it's the same edition before buying, but it can be a lot cheaper. Well you should have her go to the financial aid office at the college to see what they can offer her. If she doesn't qualify for anything then you need to see about getting a student loan. You don't have to make payments until after you are done with school and working. See if she can find some used books at Half.com if she can't get a decent price at the school bookstore. It's definitely important that she has the books for some of her classes are likely to be difficult enough with them. Check with the library over the books, and see which ones are available there. Some textbooks may not be, so the next step is crucial. She needs to go to the prof, first thing in the semester/quarter. Tell them of her situation, and ask if a text book could be put in the library as a reference, like a periodical, to be used in the library, but not checked out. Some profs already do this for students. Unfortunately, it means she needs to be on top of things, and get her work done at the library before they close. In the end, that could be beneficial for her. This will work wonderfully as long as she also takes great study notes in class for a backup. Yeah being in school sucks. It is expensive, but hopefully it will all pay off in the future. The best thing I can suggest is look into scholarships, grants, and loans. In my experience the loans are the easier of the three to get, but have the disadvantage of having to be paid back. Try fastweb.com, they give you info on scholarships and some other things about school. Remember the library is also a good place. Or, if she can find someone in the program last year, pay a small fee to borrow their books. Post signs on campus that the books are wanted. You can also get them cheap from online stores like amazon, used. does the library at the school carry the books. You could photo copy the important pages or just take notes. they are right, also, apply for more scholarships, the extra money helps with books and what they dont use, gets sent back to her...
There are government loans & grants, and then there are private loans & scholarships.
try to aim for grants/scholarships more... they are not to be paid back. its confusing sometimes, but just keep applying. Scholarships usually have a 1 or 2 page application, and require an essay. Take your time with the essay, so yours stands out.
every big (and small) company you see (manufacturer, orgs, corps and groups also) all have grants and scholarships they hand out like candy. Walmart, Kmart, Target, Coke, computer companies etc etc etc
here are some links with a HUGE list of what is available. some you will need to copy and paste into a new window. also, fastweb (take the time to fill it in) will search databases and get back to you with a list of scholarships you qualify for.
Also contact all mens, womens associations in your state, they almost always have grants & scholarships. What ever field you are going into, contact the orgs, associations etc for them; Also check with professional organizations related to your career interests, such as the American Bar Association or the American Medical Association. they also always have scholarships. Research and dig, call then write. Its all worth it.
OVER apply; it doesnt hurt to have too many, and the extra funds can help with housing.
