Is it wise to be a nurse in US ?

my question isn't about whether you have a good personality to be a nurse.. but ..the prospects of future nurse (R.N) in United States.

does it worth it to prepare and study to become a nurse now? considering it is a tough major for me who is interested in another field.

you know what imean. it's like going to another field that is totally different but hoping to get good pay.. and bla bla bla .

so .. is it wise to be a nurse in US ?

thanks

I don't know where the heck the answerer above me has been working, but I have never felt used, abused, etc. I work a few weekends and a couple of holidays per year and only work 5 days every two weeks. I only rarely go without a meal break. I can't believe you'd stay in nursing for 17 years if that's how you're treated in your job!

To answer the question, yes, it's wise for all the reasons people mentioned in terms of the benefits to you. But as others have stated, if you're only in it for the money, it will show in the care you give your patients. Nursing is a service industry. If you can't be genuine in your work people will know it.

The U.S. is always, always in need of nurses. One of the top fields in terms of necessity. Tons of doctors, no so many nurses. Of course, it's going to depend on what geographical area you want to practice in.

If you're not interested in that field, though, I wouldn't waste your time. It's something you have to want to do.

I am a senior in highschool now, and I plan on going to college next year to major in nursing. I think it is a rewarding career, and deffinitely has its benefits. Also, there is currently a high demand for nurses here in the US. But on the other hand, I do not suggest going into a field that you do not have any interest in. As pay is one factor for choosing a job, I would not consider it the main thing to look at. Do something you are interested in, especially if you are already interested in another field. Perhaps try to arrange a job shadow with a nurse for a day, and also with someone in the field you are also interested in. In other words, go with something you know you will be happy with. Hope this helps! Best of luck!

Being a RN in any county is a decent income.
You will be used, abused, and unappreciated.
You will not see family / friends on weekend or holidays.
The work is hard and there are no meal breaks.
So; if your heart is not in it, don't do it.
I am a 17 year RN. I don't regret it because I get my satisfaction from knowing I am making a difference in someones life.
