...Anyone??

Anyone here a veterinary Nurse?...if so can you tell me all about it?..coz i love animals n i really want to become a veterinary nurse and help make a difference to animals' lives..i want to help them as much as i can...and im hoping to go to uni next year and study veterinary nursing..
are there any downsides to becoming a veterinary nurse..and if so..what are they?...
any experiences that u want to share?

There are many positive and negative attributes to becoming a veterinary technician/nurse and I'll try to list a few of the downsides to the field as well as the positive ones.

Positive:

You will get to help animals from many different situations and walks of life.

Watching an animal go from sick to healthy and knowing you played a role is psychologically rewarding

You will learn to develop a good attitude with people as well as animals: Even when you want to strangle them. That's A+ customer service.

Understanding conditions helps you give owners good advice so they can give the best care possible

Negatives:

The curriculum is NOT easy, and I can be one of the first people to tell you that offhand.

You will have to learn to put your ego aside. Being incorrect about something can be very costly in this field. You have to be willing to constantly learn what's going on in vet medicine and learn to correct yourself when wrong.

You can and most likely will get bitten, scratched, kicked and bruised/hurt from an animal - regardless of how good you are at restraint. Even the most docile animal, can turn and inflict a wound on you: Be prepared for it.

Not every animal can be saved. There will be cases that break your heart, and stories where you just want to stab the owner with a spork. Unfortunately you can't. The only thing you can do is disassociate yourself a bit from the situation, and try to stay calm until you're in a different area.

Euthanasia is never easy, no matter how many times you've performed the procedure.

As rewarding as medicine is, it can also be very psychologically stressing. If you work in the ER, be prepared for insane schedules as well.

I can't think of anymore at the moment, but I hope this helps!

i thought i wanted to work in the veterinary field more than anything. i am also an animal lover and wanted to make a difference. until i did my job shadow at a vet clinic and realized it probably wasn't the profession for me. i would recommend calling your local vet and expressing your interest in their field and asking if it would be ok for you to do a job shadow for a few hours to learn what it is like to work at a vet. i found it wasn't for me and am now a business/entrepreneurship major and plan on opening a dog/cat boarding kennel. still get to work with animals, just not their insides ;)
