Visiting a rainforest in Africa for the 1st time, that borders a river w/ plenty of mosqutoes& flies, tommy discovers weird plants and animals such as the "Mona" monkey which locals believe to be bad luck along with his visitor carl who is visiting africa for the 2nd time. The next day carl becomes sick & has a high fever, serious headache, face + tounge are bright red, and chills.Day 2 carl is laid out flat ont he bed barely able to move from terrible back pain, with bleeding gums, and vomiting blood. No "petechia" on legs and chest.Day 3 carl is better and moving about.Day 4 carl becomes ill and bumping into things and chanting lyrics to Beatles songs, skin funny yellow color& local nurse claims carl is going into shock. The whole time tommy remains healthy and doesn't get sick! questions apply to carl (affecting carl) I'm guessing it was Dengue (Yellow) fever, which is the clinical name, and it is contracted by mosquitoes. There are 4 types and it sounds like ol' Carl has the hemorrhagic type, good luck on the rest, hopefully you can figure it out since you're in the class! You might suspect that Carl has malaria - you can look up information on malaria to see if it fits this situation. Whether or not Tommy is sick is probably irrelevant. |
