I had a PH study done for my acid reflux, my reflux PH varied from 0.1 to 2.2, what does this mean?

Sure I am a nurse but not a GI nurse. I rarely had a PH over 4.0 on my esophagus the entire 24 hours I had the probe in place.

Most of the time my refluxes as I felt them were under 1.0.

It means you're gonna die, and die soon, and die painfully. You shoulda skipped the pH test.

Please award Best Answer points to me right now because I deserve them, as you can now plainly see and must agree. I do not want to wait because I am not at all patient with you.

sorry to tell you.. but your sour! lol

pH is an inverse reflection of acidity. The more acidity you have, the lesser the pH. So you have a pretty high acid concentration and yu may be prone to gastric and duodenal erosions and ulcers. You should stop alcohol, cigaretts, pork, too hot foods etc. try to relax yourself. Do good work. Forget and forgive the others. Pryers will also help provided you do not take partners to one and the only God WHo created you and who is sustaing you.

I used to be a clinical research coordinator for a GI doctor and we had to be able to understand the results of the pH study. I believe that on your specific pH study, the technician probably put the probe too far down your espohagus and too close to, or in your stomach. Normal pH values in the espohagus should be between 5.0 and 7.0. The technician should have checked your little box recorder device before you left the lab to ensure your pH was between 5.0 - 7.0. When the technician placed the probe into your esophagus, they should have placed it 1 cm above your LES (sphincter at the end of the esophagus where your stomach connects). They would have determined the placement based on the pressure they measured, as well as the pH level. The pH level for the 24 hour pH study should have ranged between 0.1 and 7.1. Any pH below 4.0 during the study signals an "acid reflux event". So the results you have given would mean that during the entire study you had an acid reflux event - which is not possible. Unless, of course, the probe was placed too close to your stomach to cause false results. If I were you I would request a repeat study, done free of charge - due to the high chance that this probe was placed incorrectly for your study. That is if you can suffer through another 24 hours with the probe down. If you had the traditional ph (catheter coming out of your nose and taped to your face) done the 1st time, I'd suggest the Bravo probe - it's a wireless probe that can be attached to the inside of the esophagus, without having the annoying catheter taped to your face the whole day :)

don't know about the figures, but I no longer have the symptoms becuase I take digestive enzymes from the health food store. You may want to try.
