Hi I am starting medical terminology for LPN nursing- what is the most effective way to study this?

Thank you in advance:)

The best way is flash cards. Medical terminology can be very over whelming.
Get a package of index cards. Put the name on one side and the meaning on the other. Do not try to learn very thing at once. Start with may-be and each day. Don't spend hours on it. It work then. Having coffee in the morning read over them.
Test your self. Sit a night may-be for half an hour. Take a break during the afternoon to go over. Your vocabulary will increase and you won't be trying for hours at a time to get it done.
If you travel or drive a lot put the words on a cassette and listen in the car.
You will be surprised how quickly you will learn it
Good luck

relate it to something else like make up something funny to remind you

start with math, science and reading. These categories will help you in the long run. Math is in everything because it has mathematical equations that is required to study molecules and DNA, which links math to science. Then this will help you find the correct molecules to make medications and drugs to help people get healthy again when they are ill, which links science, and math to reading.

Make lots of flash cards and try to come up with a picture for each word. For instance olig- means scant, so when I was learning this one I pictured someone scantily clad who was named olig. Also ante- means for, so I pictured an ant named ante who was carrying a placard that said vote for ante. Stenosis means a narrowing, so picture a stenographer squeezing though a narrow doorway. Stupid stuff like that will get you through. I studied medical terminology back in '93 and I still remember these things, and yes they will come in handy once you start nursing.
