For nursing student and nurses?

What are your reasons for wanting to study or for studying nursing?

I am in nursing school... to be honest with you... I am trying this as an adventure sort of. I work in the Operating Room as a Surgical Tech, and work everyday side by side with my circulating nurse. We share a lot of the same patient care duties. Only thing is the RN makes twice as much as me. I really enjoy what I do now, I would enjoy more if they paid me what I am worth, right?

I think that to be a Nurse, you have to have a certain mentality, personal satisfaction, as well satisfaction of the patient play huge roles. You never know unless you try it out... If you don't like it run, as fast as you can.

To help other people...a feeling of satisfaction

I have always been a person that liked to talk to people and get to know them. Ive always been able to put myself in their place and wanted to help them.

My parents, of course, parlayed that into "You should become a Doctor!" Of course, not knowing any better...I always thought I wanted to be a doctor.

In college, I realized..Medicine is not what I wanted to do. However, I still had this "something" there. Someone spoke of Nursing one day. Until then, I had never considered it. I transfered schools, got into the program.. and the rest is history. My parents were infuriated...disowned me, sold my car and refused to pay my tuition. I guess they thought it might snap me out of it (I was 2 1/2 yrs into Pre-Med). Needless to say I didn't

Its been 10yrs since I graduated. Im very happy. I am now on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, been everywhere..met great friends,..run a Mentorship Program, cared for many many people along the way.

I tell people that I stumbled upon Nursing. Cause that is exactly what I did.
I realize that I may have turned out to be a good doctor... but Im a FANTASTIC Nurse.

May you find your passion...whatever it may be!

Good question, and I can't really explain it, its a desire to help people.
I personally work in Psych. I like to call it the last frontier in medicine we have cures and treatments for almost every psychical illness known.........but have only scratched the surface when it comes to illnesses of the brain.
I went into nursing because the nature of people intrigued me, esp. if its related to Nero-psychiatry.
