Nursing Math??/?

If I study nursing how many years of math would I take...and what math...??

Generally speaking you need a solid understanding of algebra. This will help you in pre-requisite courses such as chemistry and with math in the nursing program itself. Math in the nursing program itself generally consists of dosage calculations.

Here is an example tutorial on dosage calculations:

Here is an example nursing program's math requirement:

Of course, different programs may require additional math. You will want to check with the specific programs you are interested in if you have your heart set on particular schools.

it depends on what program and what school you are attending, but basic BSN majors require you to take statistics and calculus. what i would recommend is going to the website of the school of your interest and looking up their course curriculum or speaking to an academic advisor at the admissions office.

It depends on your schools curriculum. At my school we have to take Math 130 and Math 131. They also take elementary statistics, but it is classified under Psychology so I don't know about that. It is really not much math, but a lot of science, microbiology, anatomy, physiology, and chemistry. The math is the easy part of it. In my curriculum we do not have to take calculus. Hope I have helped.

The problemm with mth in nursing is that schools will require you to take college algebra or statistics. This math has NOTHING to do with nursing math. Nursing math is its own special kind of math. you may have a problem lie MD orders 250mg of a drug and it comes supplied as 125mg/tab. How many tabs? 2 I use ratio proportion to solve and it is easy that way. All problems in nursing math can be done ratio proportion.

I just finished my ADN and my school's only math requirement was basic algebra (taken in high school). This class was sufficient to get me thru Chemistry and Pharmacology. Basic ratios and calculating IV rates are the primary math questions I saw while in school.

I've been looking into my BSN and all schools I've checked out require Statistics. I've yet to see a school that requires a theoretical math like calculus for a BSN. There is a math placement test that you will have to take tho (so bone up before you go take the test. A little refresher goes a long way.)

The most math you need to get through nursing school is some algebra. i attended UAB in Bham this is one of the best programs in the country and I have always struggled with math. I made it and you can too. you need to understand things like ratio and proportions, word problems and fractions. The math is tricky , but not impossible. also this is the hardest math you will do. Once you get out of school you will use this math, but it will not be nearly as hard.
Also to ease some of your anxiety about it go to a bookstore and get one of those math books in the nursing section, practice a few problems, then you can judge for yourself.
Good luck, and God Bless
