Will getting a part time job as a care assistant help in getting an interview to study nursing at university?

Hi there,
I think thats a great idea, as some aspects of care assistant will be very much like the start of nurse training. Good practise, develop skills, and better still see if you can handle the realites of care. Good luck

Absolutely.

Yes a CV with an indication that you have experience in a caring profession is a plus point.

Yes definately, but even if you can't manage to get a job there ask for some work experience. I also will be applying for nursing, and because so many people apply it can be difficult to get in, but work experience shows that you have a great interest and will do well. I currently work in a fish and chip shop- yerrr okai not the best job, but it still gives me experience. I can handle money, I have to work to a time limit, communicate with customers - some who are deaf, blind, confined to a wheelchair, I know key aspects of health and safety. Theres lots and any job, or work experience will show you realy want to go into nursing. Ring local hospitals, care homes, maybe even brownie or scout camps to see if they need any volunteers.

Good luck with nursing x

It will help because all care assistants have now got to do NVQs 1,2,3,4 in Health Care, you sound as though you would only be doing this to enable you to get into uni, why don't you do an Access to Nursing Course at your local college and this will guarantee a uni placement, the course is 1 year.

it does it will help ur case as u will appear 2 have experience in a care setting but beware being a care assistant is not easy and the work demanding be sure u are aware of this beofre u make the career move!

Yes especially if you get a job on the nurse bank at your local hospital as this will allow you to work as a healthcare assistant on a number of wards and locations and so allow you gain much valuble experience. A good way of finding out about this is to go on the nhs jobs website and go from there.

it will do no harm at all. it will show that you have some understanding of similiar issues

definitely and good luck .

Yes - in fact this kind of work experience is almost essential - ideally with the client group you want to work with as a nurse.
