Why many filipino study nursing?

Why many filipino study nursing?

well, most of them wanted to migrate to another country, and nursing is the best way to get into US for example. US takes in a lot of Filipino nurses every year. The income is substantially higher than what they would make as a professional in the Philippines. A lot of nurses in US make more money than an average physician or General Practitioner. The training for nurses in the Philippines is also better and costs a lot cheaper than other countries.
But most nursing student I know here in the Philippines just wanted a US visa. It is hard to get a US visa. Nursing is an easy way to obtain a green card.
You have to understand, unemployment in the Philippines is skyrocketing. Most college graduates are underemployed and most work in Call centers because they earn a lot. For example, an administrative assistant in a company earns about P10,000 - P15,000 a month, while call center agents, who have lesser job than an assistant, earns about P12,000 - P20,000. A receptionist or a secretary earns about P10,000 a month. Yet they do more work than the call center agents.
To be fair, most filipino nurses in US are very polite and friendly. Their disposition is marginally better than their counterparts. Been confined to several hospitals in California and New York and I always find a lot of Filipino nurses. I find them much more caring and helpful and friendly.
