Should I go and study nursing in Dublin or stay in Nottingham? |
I want to study nursing and have been working in care for over 6 years, and i'm really interested in doing it in dublin! But can't make up my mind on staying in Nottingham or having the guts to move away from home and going to Dublin. Any suggestions on helping me make up my mind? Financially I can afford it, I know that I can always depend on my parents if i desperately need to (as much as I hate asking them for help). Mentally.. judging from past experiences, being around things that have bad reminders (there are quite a few) and have a vivid memory... I think that doing nursing as far away as possible will be a refreshing new start for me! I attend St James Hospital in Dublin because of my Diabetes and I am Scottish, but as much as the Hospital is great and the people are better you have to think of the cost to stay here, it is just too expensive and if you think of buying a house on a nurses wages then forget it, hope ya do well whatever you decide............Jimbo Stay where you are! After the degree... you can go where ever you choose! Dublin. Nottingham queens is bad. You get loads of sh!t in A&E. Having the guts is one thing, yes, but having the money is yet another, and equally important. Can you afford to go to Dublin? How is the financial situation for you where you are? If you went to Dublin, you could perhaps check the housing bulletin boards at hospital and see if you could find affordable housing with someone else, possibly another nurse. All I am telling you to do is to think this all through a little better before you decide. Are you financially okay in Nottingham? Is the financial thing part of the equation? It would be wonderful if you could meet someone who would provide you a place to stay while you continue your work in Dublin. If I were looking at this for myself, I would be looking for someone to stay with in Dublin while I was there so I would not have to be thinking of the expense of housing while there. I am thinking a number of elderly folks in Ireland would jump at the chance to have a nurse as their guest for the duration. Think imaginatively and you'll have it! Don't do something on the basis of running away from things. Facing up to the past is important. The past is something you have to live with all of your life. People are right when they say that the QMC is bad. A friend of mine was a student nurse there and it was very hard demanding work, but since graduating she has had no problem finding a job because many people think that if you can survive the QMC you can survive anything. It is one of the most respected teaching hospitals in the UK. On the other side of the coin I love Dublin |
