Average Guy Health Care Question?

I am an average 61 year old guy with average income and just had a quadruple bypass surgery. The surgical team was excellent. The cardiologists were excellent. The other doctors and nurses were excellent. The hospital facilities were excellent. My insurance company has stepped up to the plate and paid for all the major expense items. My medications are state of the art and my co-pay is about five bucks a prescription. I hear the extreme rich and extreme poor complain but why should I be unhappy about health care?

You shouldn't be unhappy. People are forcing universal health care on those of us who don't want it

The only thing you should be unhappy about is that it was WAY too expensive cause government has their big greedy hands in the middle of it. Get them out of it.. your surgery would have been half that cost.
Otherwise.. its the best country in the world.

It sounds to me, that personally, you have nothing to be unhappy about. The reason others complain is that perhaps their insurance isn't as good as yours, and they pay more out of pocket.
And the real reason healthcare is so pricey is because of lawyers! In the past so many have been so quick to sue over malpractice, that the doctor's insurance prices have gone up. So in turn the what the doctor charges the rest of his patients has to go up to compensate.

Listen you ungrateful bastard...you should be unhappy because it's not fair that you have health care and others do not. How dare you flaunt this when millions of illegals can't get health care because they have 3 cell phones, cable or satelite tv, and an interest only home loan they're now upside down in.

Because you lucked out my friend.big time. Ask all the other that have "fallen through the cracks" as they say, and find that they have no coverage for their particular ailment, or have no health insurance at all.

My cousin thought he was covered by his companies insurance plan (which he paid 80% of) only to find that he AND his wife were not covered for their surgery and their co-pays for prescriptions were astrinomical.

His employer like all others, only offered the absolute CHEAPEST insurance coverage possible, just to show up on the government satatistics that his employees were covered by health care insurance.

Think of the other guy once in a while, it is not only the American thing to do, but also the Christian thing to do.

Sir, I think you have every right to be grateful that you didn't come out of pocket. That is a blessing since others are not so fortunate. However you should consider taking better care of yourself. You should also consider Usana Health Sciences. They are an outstanding pharmaceutical company that offers outstanding products to aid in protecting you cellular and nutritionally. Exercise and watching what you eat would be great as well. Just something to think about. Check it out at www.singletongroup.usana.com

well... you don't address how much you pay for insurance...

and if you don't pay for it... how much does the company you work for pay for it? (many companies have been greatly crippled by rising costs... look at GM and Ford... is that a good thing when they are paying $6,000 more in every car they produce for healthcare than Toyota does?)

you don't talk about how much you make or have made... you're clearly not on medicaid with that kind of coverage... and your insurance sounds like it's the best out there...

I would bet that you're in the top 20 percent of earners in the U.S.... if I was guessing... with that kind of insurance...

the real issue is the fact that the vast majority of insurance (and hospital bills) has risen in cost by a tremendous amount over the past 10 years... and for most, deductibles have increased a lot...

here's a fun idea... look at your bill.... see how much they charged you... now imagine you have to pay 20 or 30 percent of it (which is becoming more and more common) on a $45,000 a year household salary (which is the median household salary in the U.S.)...

you'll probably start seeing the "problem" pretty quickly when you put yourself in "most people's" shoes...
