Abortion confusion?

I personally am very much against abortion. My cousin says she is having one, but she said the doctor disagreed with her reasons and refused it so she went to a clinic. She says the nurse there did a test which came back positive 'very quickly' for her to be 8 weeks pregnant as she claims to be, and asked if she was sure she wasnt further along, to which she replied no. She says the nurse then booked her in for another appointment on friday where she will give her the abortion pill if she hasnt changed her mind. My cousin then told me she's actually 19 weeks! (It's difficult to tell looking at her whether she is or not as she's quite overweight). But that she didnt want the surgical procedure, so she lied to get the pill instead. But surely the nurse would've done a scan? Or at least felt her tummy (and therefore been able to tell she was much further along)? If she is telling the truth, and is 19 weeks along - what will taking the pill do?

19 weeks????? she is basically half way done. she would def. have to do the surgical procedure...the baby is just too big, Im not sure but i think its too late for an abortion? i personally think thats disgusting but if she takes that pill im guessing (just guessing) that it could possible NOT work and the baby may be born with defects, god forbid anything like that happens but I would go ask a doctor...or tell her to go to one asap...either way, if the pill does work which i hope it doesnt, she will have to go to the doctors to get it out and it could be considered a still birth.

Not quite sure, but it may not be effective that far along. That's horrible that she lied - she could possibly do damage to herself and the fetus by not having a complete abortion. Do as much research as possible on what could happen and have her read it.

The pill is very dangerous and it will clear the fetus out of her body. Someone should be with her at all times.

She needs to get a second opinion on how far along she is ASAP!

Taking that pill may not abort the baby. It will probobly do a lot of damage to it though.

i very much doubt they would you a pill for an abortion without first doing a scan to see how far along you are. i don't believe the pill would do anything at this point, though it could negatively effect the baby. the "abortion pill" only works when you are very early in your pregnancy.

Yeah, I don't know anything about the pill, but if the nurse asked if she was sure, I think there's a sound medical reason. If she just damages the fetus instead of killing it, she'll still have to go through the surgery. A lot of things can go wrong. I have a bad feeling about this.

It sounds like she if flirting with danger. Truthfully, the abortion pill may not do anything or she could hemorage to death. There are a variety of things that could happen, but she really needs to be truthful with the clinic. If I were you, I would have a serious talk with her.

Well, I feel she's lying, because before an abortion is done, there is an ultrasound done to determine how far along someone is.

At 19 weeks she would go into labor and give birth to a tiny fully developed baby. And if she did this at home, she could possible hemmorage (bleed to death).

So you are saying that your friend wants to join the ranks of a murderer? Here's a thought, if someone is so immature that they can't wait for marriage to have sex, they need to suck it up and deal with the consequences!

Give the baby up for adoption, there are many would-be parents that can't have children and would love to adopt. There are others, like myself, that would love to adopt a child...

I am not sure what the pill will do but 19 weeks is a long time and your cousin will go into labor I think. Can't anyone stop her?? One would think that the nurse would do more than just ask but I don't think that every medical professional is trustworthy (most are - just some aren't). Try to talk her out of this or take her back to the clinic to be re-evaluated.

It won't be effective at best and at worst it will do harm to the fetus. The reason the doctor wouldn't do it is because he probably knows how far along she is. Is there a medically compelling reason she wants the abortion? Or is she simply wanting to "reverse a mistake" etc.? An abortion at 19 weeks MUST be done surgically and it will usually not be done unless there is a compelling medical reason why it needs to be. That fetus will be viable in as little as six weeks. She's done this for this long she should consider another option. If she doesn't want it at this point give it up for adoption. She should have done an abortion earlier on if that's the choice she wanted to make.

All you can do is pray for the unborn child.

Wow... umm... I'm not exactly sure, but it could be bad. She's young isn't she? Instead of worrying about covering up her "mistake" she needs to NOW think about the fact that she could have seriously hurt HERSELF.

the clinic will do a blood test or ultrasound to be sure how far along she is because they cant give her the pill unless she is 8 weeks or under. they wont just take her word for it...

it an cause a lot of damage....i would advise her against it. anyway i don't know any clinic that wouldn't do a scan before doing the pill. The pill is only for ppl that are like 3 weeks pregnant. not even 8 weeks...8 weeks is too far along...she can hemorrhage and die.

OMG!! 19 weeks... that's a living baby!! She needs to tell the truth to her dr. I don't know much about that abortion pill but I don't think it would work on a half term baby and it can't be good for your cousin. Holy smokes. If she refuses to tell, you should call the clinic and let them know for your cousins safety. That's really sad. If she is going to have an abortion in the first place she should at least man up and do it right!!! What a weak, sad, scared little life she must live!

she does know that at 19 weeks they will have to crush the baby's skull with clamps and stir up the brains just to get it out. people are sick. I'm glad you are against abortion!

I think she should tell the nurse the facts. In first pregnancy or in skinny women it hard to tell they are pregnant before five months at least. So hiding the facts can be very dangerous. She better speak to another doctor or nurse and go through a complete procedure before she decides to do anything about this. It can be risking her life too. I strongly recommends go through complete procedure and consult some specisists as well.

she mustn't take that pill if she is 19 weeks!! she will do serious damage to herself and the baby, her only options at this stage are to have an abortion (quick becuase i think the limit is 20 weeks), or face up to responsibility and become a mum.

They do ultrasounds to tell how far along you are, they don't go by the what the person says because periods can be irregular. Also, the pill only works for early pregnancy, if she is further along than she says it may not work. They tell you that you'll have to go in and get the surgical procedure done anyways. It's almost impossible to get an abortion at 19 weeks and if a clinic is willing to do it, I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't on the up and up.

she has no idea what this pill could do to her. you need to cotact a doctor and ask them.

she shouldnt be taking the pill if shes further along. chances are she will take the pill but instead of a miscarriage it might just cause deformities to the baby, and she would then have to get the surgical procedure either way (by using the pill, you are legally bound to HAVE to get a surgical procedure if it doesnt work, cuz it would cause severe problems to a baby if it were allowed to keep growing) So either way she would end up having to do it, she shouldnt have lied. she needs to either keep the baby or get the procedure done.

Good grief, 19 weeks is almost 5 months pregnant! That is halfway through a pregnancy. She is WAY too far along to terminate a pregnancy at this point and if she goes through with it the consequences could be life-threatening!! You need to talk with her about this. It's very serious and her parents need to be told, if she is under age. You have a moral obligation to try to stop your cousin from doing what she is trying to do. Good luck!

What country are you in? A friend of mine had one here in America a few years ago, and I believe they did an ultrasound to determine how far along she was. They have to be sure of that because abortion past a certain point is illegal.

I'm pro choice but I think an abortion at 19 weeks is too late. She waited too long. She should consider adoption at this point. I can't tell you what the pill will do at that point but I would call the clinic and ask them if they commonly perform abortions at 19 weeks. They should be more diligent in determining how far along a pregnancy is instead of just taking someone's word for it.

They should be investigated, this just seems very wrong.
