How do I prioritize my day? Help, new nursing student.? |
Hi, I'm a nursing student on a med surgical floor. I just started working and it's my second day. I have 6 patients and all are on insulin and 3 are bedridden. I have an idea on who should get seen first but I am finding it hard to get my charting done on time. Any suggestions? Are you not getting things done because you are so busy or because it is all so new to you? If you are so busy then you need to delegate- get the health carers to wash the bedridden patients and do their Obs. You can still watch to ensure they do it properly. Part of being a nurse is being able to observe everything around you! do not be scared to ask for help from qualified staff- they are there to help you and if you don't get it all done then hand it over to the next shift! As long as your patients are safe then don't fret too much. Talk to your mentor- she is there to support you here. Good luck! When I was a nursing student, I had to go in the night before. Have a worksheet to write on with all of the patients. |
