Can anyone recommend a good shoe for surgical nurses to wear?

I will be on my feet all day for hours at a time.

I am a surgical nurse, and the best shoe I have ever put on my foot is called a Mizuno Nirvana 2. They are pricey, but a great buy if your looking for a solid shoe with a nice breeze passing thru it and support. I work w/ 2 other nurses who also wear the same shoe. They are just fantastic. You can purchase them off the internet or you can buy them in sports shoe stores. They are light and the mesh fabric in the shoe breathes your foot. They have an arch support which is great inside and the sole of the shoe is supportive. I even bought a pair for my brother in law who just had open heart surgery for his fitness stuff following surgery and he loves them.
One of our surgeons also wears Mizuno's when he is out rounding on the floor. His are not the Nirvana, but a cheaper brand of Mizuno shoe.
The crocks are the cheapo plastic shoes w/ no support and they end up not being all that comfortable. They are just trendy and have caught on sort of like those ignorant Jellies in the 1980's. Clogs offer no support what so ever. They are just trendy. Surgeons wear them because they are easy to put on and off and they stand in 1 spot for long periods of time. They do not walk around.
The podiatrist at our hospital also said Mizuno is an excellent shoe for people on their feet all the time.
Good luck and happy trails!!!

I hate to recommend them, because I hate how they look, but I would imagine Crocs are all the rage.

If you can't get those, find a nice comfortable pair of clogs at a local footwear store. DON'T go to payless. Look for someplace like a Walking Company.

How 'bout 'Heelies'? You can zip back and forth really quick!:)

Just think....

"Nurse, forceps" BANG!
"Nurse, retractor"BANG!

You'd be like SuperNurse! :)

JUST GO BAREFOOT. IT'S THE MOST HYGENIC,

i see alot of nurses and cna wearing crocs, they say they are so comfortable.....

Ecco or Rockfort shoes are best options.

I've had Red Wing work shoes for construction work, for factory work, and now as a health care pro. Only thing is they don't come in a wide range of colors, and might not even be available in white any more. However, they are supportive, comfortable, of excellent quality, a good value for the price, last for many years, and get a free "tune up" each year at your local Red Wing dealer.

You didn't ask, but I strongly advise you to start wearing heavy duty support sox. I mean the Hanes for men or something, not the sheer knee highs in girly packages. Now that I'm older, I've added wearing dancers footless support tights under my scrub pants. My feel really know the difference at the end of the day if I skip my support sox and tights.

i'm a medical student, so i've been in theatre several times to observe surgery, and the shoes we get given to wear are either Crocs or Dr. Scholl type clogs

hope that helps! :)

The best work shoe, and probably the best shoe out there, are the Red Wings. They have excellent support and are built to last for years. Cant do better than those.
Not to mention they are made in USA by an ethical and trustworthy company.

crocs! they're so comfortable.
if you want looks as well, try nike air mogans. their padded with wool and really comfortable or vans slip ons.

SAS brand. They probably cost more than $100 now, but a pair can last for many years, and they are as comfortable as a shoe can be. I had my first pair for 10 years, wearing them almost daily, and I had them re-soled a few times. I still have my second pair. In fact I still have my first pair, they are beat up but still serviceable for rough dirty work.
