What is the salary of a surgical nurse in San Diego, CA?

I am wondering what the average salary is for a surgical nurse and what tests must be taken, how many years, about it?

You don't really get paid more because of being in a certain department - many hospitals have unions and regardles of your specialty area, you get paid the same, it all depends on how long you've worked there and how much experience you have. Typically, new graduates from a nursing program will make anywhere from $40-$50k per year depending on the facility, the hours, etc. Experienced nurses can make $70k or more per year.

To work in just about any nursing position, as long as you are a registered nurse, your hospital will provide your training for your specific job. For an OR job, they usually will hire you into an "externship" program where you are taking classes and are in a lengthy orientation phase for up to a year after being hired before you are fully on your own.
