21 weeks pregnant with severe pain?

I'm 21 weeks, and suddenly today, I got a severe pain. It started in the right side of my stomach above my belly button and traveled around to the right side of my back. It came on so severely that in about 5 or 6 minutes I went from being perfectly fine to crying and vomiting from the pain. It was hurting so bad that I could not walk, sit up, or anything. I see a high-risk doctor so he is 2 hrs away. I called him and he said to go to the ER here. I went and the pain started subsiding a little at a time, and within a couple of hours I wasn't hurting at all. They did a non-stress test and the baby was fine and I was not having contraction. They also did a urinalysis which came back that I had a lot of blood in my urine and my red blood cell count was way high. I never saw a dr just a nurse. She said that I probably had passed a kidney stone from my kidney to my bladder. She didn't do anything else and discharged me. I'm supposed to call my ob tomorrow. Does this sound right?

it's possible. one of the main causes of blood in urine is stones. it can also happen with bladder infections. i don't think the stone explains the high blood count, but you also have 50% more blood than usual (or getting there) since you're pregnant. you could also be dehydrated, that makes the blood more concentrated so your counts are higher than normal. drink lots of fluids and call your doc in the morning. if you get the pain again, head back to the ER. glad the baby's fine. good luck.

In a way...but you may have been also having a gallbladder attack. After I had my 2nd baby, I had to have my gallbladder removed, because I too went through the same pain you just described. I asked my doc why my gallbladder went bad, and he told me that it could be a number of things but more than likely it was my diet and from having kids.

Sounds highly possible that you could have passed a stone. If you have anymore pain though, you should go BACK to the ER. Make sure too, to monitor your baby's movements. If you don't feel it move like it normally does, this also should be addressed. Follow up with your OB ASAP. Blood in your urine is a lot of times indicative of a kidney stone. Usually, they are accompanied with excruciating pain.

it could be your gall bladder. i had a friend that was pregnant last summer and every 2-3 weeks she would have SEVERE abdominal pain, difficulty breathing, and she would just freeze (because the pain was that severe.) she was also high-risk, and when she went to the ER the physicians realized she had a inflammed gall bladder! the only cure was to take it out; at this time she was about 24 wks, so obviously surgery was out. she went on the last 10 wks of her pregnancy having these "attacks"...so after she had the baby, about 3 wks, she had the surgery and it went away!

Kidney stones do appear during some pregnancies, some suffer diabetes, or even gout.
To be sure you would need a CT scan or ultrasound. If you did pass the stone would not show on scans.
You did not mention severe pain with urination, you may still have the stone, it has just stopped moving. Pain going around trunk of body, nausea or vomiting, and blood in urine are classic signs of a kidney stone. Follow up with your OB doctor on this, He should be able to help.
