Had anybody had a mistake done to them during surgery?

I'm just wondering if anybody has experienced a surgery mistake like something being left inside. My boyfriend had a malignant tumor removed from his salivary gland about 2 months ago. The specialist that removed the tumor released him while he was still in tremendous pain and told him he was the biggest wimp he'd ever seen for a grown man. After going to a couple different doctors that wouldn't help him, a nurse practitioner finally scheduled him a CT, and they found a piece of metal left in him. They think it's a needle or scalpel tip. It's travelled from his jaw to right by his ear canal and is going to have to be taken out very soon. He's contacted a lawyer about getting some money for time lost from work and medical expenses. I'm just curious about others' experiences that are similar.

I had 9 surgeries in less than 18 months several years back. (All female cancer related) and during me 2nd surgery the doctor (who did not perform my first surgery) found 16 loose staples inside me (near my uterus) they were never attached to anything inside me (they must have fallen in I guess...) He took photos during the surgery for me and gave me the staples following the surgery. When we confronted the first doctor he basically said "I'm sorry this has never happened before" blah blah. I was very angry at first but was greatful to the second doctor for finding them. We filed case with the medical board and the first doctor had a 'warning" put in his file. Because the mistake didn't cause me any physical or mental pain I couldn't sue for money. (Money wasn't what I was going after, I just wanted the record to state what happened)

ya just yesturday i got done with one of my surgerys and i have another one in two weeks!
