Pleurisy? HELP?!?

My mom just got home from work and since she's a nurses assistant; I asked her what she knows about Pleurisy. She thought I said thursday, for some reason she hasn't be able to hear well lately, but that's besides the fact. She didn't know what it was so I was like it's when . . and I looked up and she had this face on like "oh puhlease! there's nothing wrong with you" so I was like forget it. just forget it . I was like I'm not gonna stand for that. She's looking at me thinking oh yeah. this idiot kid has some horrible disease. She always thinks there's nothing wrong with me, when I tell the doctor how I feel he ALWAYS tells me it's either a virus or growing pains. I'M SO SICK OF HEARING THAT FROM MY MOM AND MY DOCTOR! Nobody ever has a clue and nobody wants to be bothered with my problems. My mom wonders why I'm so upset and being so "mean" to her but it feels like it's the other way around. I need help! I'm in pain and upset and I need to know what to do!!! Well, I have been having pain for quite some time in my rib cage and chest and it's like a sharp tightness. Sometimes it travels into my neck and back and feels sort of crampy. I also feel it in my abdomen sometimes. Sometimes its so severe that I cant even finish my sentence. It hurts alot when I run and lately, it hurts even when I run. I need to know!

I had pleurisy and the discomfort was accompanied with a low grade fever. It didn't last more than a week. What you described doesn't sound like pleurisy to me but I'm not a doctor.

Sounds like you might want to get a second opinion, and find a counselor to confide in if you think your mom is belittling your concerns.

i'm no expert, but it doesn't sound like pleurisy to me. you definitely should see a doctor though. if you can't get a satisfactory answer from him, switch doctors.

hm.. well I don't know about pleurisy other then a pleural is in the lungs but don't block out other possible problems cause it really could be just asthma especially if it hurts when you run... and I already don't like your doctor... ask your mom if you can switch
but the severe pain and the fact that you think its in the lungs makes it sound like asthma or excercise induced asthma

It could be bronchitis. or asthma or costochondritis......however pleurisy is an inflammation in the lining of your lungs.....it usually produces a sharp pain on taking a deep breath and is treated with an anti-inflammatory. Try some Tylenol, Motrin, or Advil and if that does not work.....consider consulting with your physician.
