Can you ask a doctor just for a general mot?

Hi I wondered if you can phone the doctor and ask for a general looking over i.e blood pressure, cholestrol etc from the nurse?
It's for a relative who never goes to the doctor and is 25 years old. He is going away travelling. He just wants to check over his general fitness as he gets nosebleeds all the time which could be connected to blood pressure I believe...thanks

Yes, just phone the surgery and tell the receptionist you want an appointment for a general check up. Explain on the phone it is blood pressure cholesterol etc. Explain about the nose bleeds as well, You may be better to also arrange an appointment with the doctor, to check out the nose bleeding and anything else that is worrying you, if he explains he wants a general fitness check up as he is travelling, the doctor will know exactly what is necessary.l

Most surgerys hold a well man clinic for such a thing, but you could also ask at a chemist, as most of these now have special consultation rooms for this purpose. There are also alot of walk-in centers in most places as well.

Yes you can get one at any time you want one.

Yes you can but unless it is connected to a particular prob you may be charged i think its beacuse it takes up time and the NHS is for sick people not people that want to confirm they are well, but if you add in the nose bleeds as your reason for going you might get away with it.
