Please help me find a GOOD Dr.?

I am besides myself w/ my Mom's Dr. My Mom has been hospitalized 9 times since May of this year. She goes into the ER because, she is wheezing uncontrollably, her blood pressure is unreal but, yet the Dr's tell her everything is fine. Her lung Dr did diganose her w/ COPD and yes, she does smoke and we ( siblings and I ) cannot get her to quit! She was healthy as a horse up until my Dad died ( almost 2 yrs ago) then all of a sudden she started drinking and smoking more then ever. She lies to her Dr's and I've tried to talk to the nurses but, they won't relay the message to the Dr's. My Mom has slowed the smoking down but, she still ends up in the hospital every 4-6 weeks like clock work. They give her breathing treatments, and send her home a couple days later. I am FED up w/ her Dr's and need some opinions on good Dr's in the chicagoland area. We reside in Plainfield and are willing to travel to finally get a Dr who knows whats going on w/ my Mom. Please help!!

Two things. She needs medical and psychological help.
Medical for her COPD and psychological for the depression.
Depression has many faces, and it looks like she started this negative conduct after your father died, so I'd recommend finding a good therapist so she can manage her grief healthily and quit her destructive behavior.
Now, you are lucky enough to live close to The University of Chicago, which has one of the best Asthma and COPD centers in the Nation. You can contact them at (773) 702-0880 and ask for information.
But remember, a person is not just body, but mind, find a good therapist, too.
Lots of luck!

as written copd is a progressive disease charecterised by remissions and exacerbrations.as a result the doc are trying to increase the remission period or reduce the intensity of exacerbration.as the bronchial epithelium is hyper responsive in pts with cpod even a sm,all stimuli will produce increase symptoms viz breathlessness, wheeze tovarying intensity of cyanosis to cardiorespiratory failure.dust smoke allergens cold exposure etc can aggravete the sympyoms.hence its better to avoid these factors plus regular medications +deaddiction treatment +will be of help.by this the duration of remission can be prolonged
