How long do we really live?

You are not able to be free from supervision until you are around 20. You work the entire time from 20 to 65. When you are older do you really live? Should we even count as living the time you spend your senior years doing nothing but sitting in the house or nursing home? How long do we really live? If my arithmetic is right we spend on average 4 hours a day actually living our lives. This is how my time is breaking down right now. 8 hours working, 5 hours sleeping, 3 hours trying to fall asleep, 2 hours traveling to and from work. 1 hour preparing to leave for work in the morning. 1 hour doing other tasks. Maybe I get 4 hours a day of me time. So the question is this, how long do we truly 鈥渓ive鈥?

Excellent point. Yes we spend more time at work & doing things we don't want to do than we spend at play or doing the things we enjoy. It's sad. But that's why we have to make the most of our moments no matter how brief they may be. If you only have 4 hours in a day to live your life then live the most in those 4 hours. Do whatever makes you happy & make your life meaningful. It makes the rest of the day (that's wasted in jobs we hate) bearable.

Or maybe we'll get lucky & win the lottery & be free to travel & do whatever we wish!

sorry but the rest of us live 24/7 from birth to death sorry about your outlook it must be very depressing

OK i will admit that living without sleep ( 1/3 more effective life ) would be cool but childhood was very cool ( and I'm sure babyhood was also with the flood of new wondrous stuff )

i looked at the question and i think that is a question only God can aswer no ones knows when we die or how long we live.

you live from the time you are conceived, till your last heart beat. Maybe even a couple minutes after that. When they use to chop off heads in France, there was a guy whos job it was to pick up the head out of the basket to hold it up. 25% of the heads would try to talk for up to a couple minutes. weird but true.

Great question. I "live" for the winter months, and Saturday nights. I work till 5:00 six days a week and have to do everything that I need to get done on Sundays. As for the winter months, it is a slow time for the work I am in so I can take off for a few weeks or so. When it all boils down, a small fraction of your living hours are enjoyable. But thats life, no one said it was easy.

Woman live longer than men, the oldest woman on record (birth record) was 115. The oldest living man on record was 112. But that's out of millions. less than 1% of people live to 100, but a lot of people say there older than they really are. If your in your early 20s now, and don't smoke or eat/drink to much you can live to around mid 80s. See a doctor once a year for a check up after 30.

I must say, you are quite possibly ,in my opinion,the person with the greatest NEED of answers!! Seems like you have put a lot of thought and energy into this, All I can offer is this~ for me it isn't years of life~ it is the LIFE in the years! Does that make sense? I mean to you. If I go by your view points I'm not living at all because the me time I have is ruined by insulters, spiers, ridiculers. I had less watching me when I was a kid! I went door to door selling regal stationery just so I could have some lunch money that wound up being given to bullies asking for lunch money! Bullies pretended to there parents that I was the bully and the parents wouldn't listen to me! I swear I'm telling the truth! I was never a bully I swear! It's probably Bullies that are watching me. They'd be grown up by now and they want to prove their lie to be true! My adult life I sit down alot. It's a life I don't like ridiculed alot for no apparent reason. If I go by your view then I'm not living just merely existing!

That IS life everyday junk and everyday people. Our life's are not the movies, we go to work we have lunch with our buddies on the docks, we go bowling or fishing or to art galleries, or the mall. We take vacations. Some of us get married and have kids, some of us don't. Work is not outside of our lives, it is part of our lives The O.C. is not real. Hollywood lifes are not indicative of the common man, and there aint nothing wrong with being the common man. We all are born we all bleed, our poops stink just like everyone else. Paris Hilton has nothing over the rest of us other then bad manners. Life is what you make, not what it makes of you. We are all going to grow old that is part of life.
I can tell you of some kids in compton that are free of supervision and they aren't 15 years old. It's not always a bad thing.

Looks like you waste all your time trying to figure out how other people live instead of just living yourself. We really don't start living until our body is dead then if lucky your spirit will live forever.

on this world we live 75 or so yrs. but if you connect with the spiritual spark from the creator, then you get eternal will.......

physically?
if your doing things that require your function in your daily life, you are still living whether you like the activity you are doing or not.
you make it seem like living is something that should be spent alone and being aware of it.
