A Level Stress?!?

I'm doing my GCSEs at the moment, but my sixth form application has to be in by christmas. And I don't know what A Levels to take!

I'd like to have a career in medicine, either nursing or a doctor. What A Levels would i have to have? because there are so many things i would like to take, i don't want them all to be acedemic.

Also are there any jobs do do with medicine that involve travelling?

And last, but not least, what are my options after A Levels?

PS im predicted to get As in biology and chemistry and possibly maths for GCSE, and B in other subjects

Don't stress too much about your A-levels if you are planning to go to uni to train as a doctor then just make sure you are taking the necessary A-levels to get on a course you want to do, apart from that just do something you will enjoy because chances are you will get a good grade. Remember if you are planning on doing more education A-levels are just a stepping stone to get there so it's not massivley important which ones you do. I would recommend maths if you are good at it though, and biology and chemistry are helpful for the medical profession. Don't stress about it though!

colts will win

As in biology and chemistry at GCSE are nowhere near good enough for medicine or nursing. You need straight A*s across the board in every subject. And the fact that you have to ASK what subjects you need to take at A level show you haven't got what it takes. Sorry. Best learn the harsh truth now rather than be disappointed later.

Good A levels to have would be Biology and Chemistry, and maybe Physics.

Apart from that, choose what you enjoy.

Speak to a careers advisor about medical jobs involving travelling.

If you want to be a doctor or a nurse, you will have to go to university to train. You can do that directly after A levels, or you can spend a year or two travelling or perhaps working as a health care assistant first.

To be any kind of doctor, Biology and Chemistry are a must, maths is also helpful.

You will need A in both biology and chemistry for most of the better courses at A-Level, make sure you start looking for as much work experience in medicine as possible, as well as volunteering work.

Medicine is course that requires academic knowledge, but relevant experience in dealing with medicine and with people is highly desireable.

Medical proffessions require a degree, that is what this answer has been geared towards.

Hope this helps,

Dom

i like the colour blue!

I remember when I went through what you're going through now! But don't stress out too much it will only make you panic and you might make rash decisions.

I don't think doctors and nurses travel much (maybe in particular situations) but maybe research will get you travelling to other countries. So why don't you look up things like biochemistry or genetic engineering!

I would suggest that you go for Biology and Chemistry A levels. From my experience I know you can take 4 AS levels so why don't you also take Maths for AS?

Good luck!!!

it depends where you go(scotland or england), you would have to look at the university specs. i myself would like to be a dentist. i am during my Scottish highers in Maths, chemistry, english, physics and computing. and next year im doing my advanced highers in maths chemisty and physics. i am also doing higher biology.
I Know for a FACT that you need either chemistry or biology, must have math or another science subject plus english.
hoped i helped

biology chemistry and maths are the most helpful, dont worry i know how you feel im in your exact position except ive been ill for 8 months so ive had to give up so many options and now im stressing for sixth form coz im only gonna be able to take 2 subjects and then how will i get into uni blarghhhh i wish i was as clever as you!

At A'level you would be advised to take maths, chemistry and physics. The necessary biology is taught as part of the medicine training. Confirm this with the web-sites of medical schools. You will need As at A level, and you will need to be able to demonstrate commitment. This usually means some connection with the field, e.g. hospital work, work shadowing. In addition, the interviews will attempt to assess you suitability to the work - communication skills, problem solving on your feet, general aptitude.

Travelling. At a low level, there is the job of "Medical Rep." - trying to get GPs to prescribe the medicines of particular companies. At an intermediate level, with some medical training, there is medical volunteer work with The Red Cross and Medicine sans Frontiers. At a high level, you could travel a lot as a consultant - doing the international conference circuit.
