Any other mommies feel like they really knew what they were doing with their newborns and babies?

but now that they are toddlers you feel inadequate and unprepared? When my daughter was born, I really was a natural. Nursing was a breeze, she slept well, she ate well, she travelled well, she was independant and content, rarely cried, never showed anxiety when I left the room, would let anyone hold her, She is 11 1/2 months old now and cries everytime I leave the room, hangs on my legs and cries while I try to put on a dash of makeup, pitches tantrums when I tell her "no", is a picky eater, and recently not a great napper! what happened? I used to have the most laid back kid, she has now transformed?

Hahaha, I am the opposite.
When my son came out I was in shock! I had no idea what to do with him!
I spent many of the first few weeks and months learning everything as if I had never seen a baby before... I don't know why but I had no confidence... (after awhile this all got better)

Now my son is running around throwing tantrums, etc and I certainly miss the quiet days when he was a baby, but I just love being able to chase him and teach him things and read to him... I love when he mimics me and plays hide and seek. i feel like a much more confident mom now then I did at first...

interesting!

thats just life with a kid. wait until she's 2 it gets a whole lot worse. the best thing to do is let her throw her tantrums and act like it doesn't bother you. then she will slowly see that doesn't get you attention

LOL, I feel for you, honestly. Almost all babies do this. She feels insecure when you leave the room. She's just going through a phase and will work through it. Just try and be patient. Wait till she's 2!

it's normal...she's going through seperation anxiety. c below
btw...lots of changes are on the way. u should get a baby book of stages and phases that tells u what to expect the first year.

With my newborn had far more time to read and read than with my toddlers.

What I figure is you see so many posts on how parenting is the hardest job you'll ever have, and my mentality then is to study/read up. You'll often find a trick that works with them. Almost feels like when you know what you are suppose to do, theres less stress, feel more in control of things. But then again, we still have meltdowns and get crazy stares at Target.

well, yes ... except the part about feeling like i knew what i was doing with newborns and babies. :-) you don't want it to be too easy, do you? there wouldn't be shelves full of books about what to do about your crazy toddler if it weren't a little difficult. take heart. elementary age kids are a breeze. :-)

she's going through separation anxiety and realizing she can refuse to eat and refuse to do this or that she is developing her own identity now, when my son was a baby I had this figured out especially since he was my second child, wow, did I have that wrong since he was born he has had his own agenda, and I have to some how fit into what he has planned for the day whether I like it or not, it's fun and tiring but I wouldn't change it for the world, she will start to overcome the fear and realize that you will come back. Enjoy these years for once they are gone you will never have them back.
