How can I take care of my elderly parents, financially and otherwise, & still enjoy a full life of my own?

I don't want to send them to a nursing home. I've worked in nursing homes/ long-term care facilities, and I know what they're like. But I'm having a hard time stretching the money I make in taking care of them and myself, paying bills and so on. I want to save money for myself. I also want to travel, enjoy something of life. I also want to relocate and buy my own house. I am single and it's hard managing on my own. I can't rely on some Prince Charming to rescue me and save the day. I feel really miserable, unhappy, overwhelmed and depressed. I don't know what to do.

I'm sorry, I don't have a great answer for you but I wanted to reach out and say that I applaud the fact that you are taking care of your parents and don't want to put them in a nursing home. They deserve that for taking care of you as you grew up. You sound like a great child that they should and I bet are proud of. Is there a way you could afford to hire a care taker to come in and take care of them certain days a week so you could have some time to yourself? Could you use their social security to pay for this? Do they have any money saved?

They are suppose to be free or at least affordable, much cheaper than an assisted living program. Also, find out from your local government if you can qualify for state assistance.
