What should i major in if I want to work for an organ donation organization?

I'm currently a freshman nursing major but nursing isn't my thing. When I was thinking about what I am passionate about, I realized I want to incorporate my knowledge and passion about the organ shortage and make it my career. I've looked on some websites and there are so many different job titles. I think being a family counselor would be interesting, or an educator and travel to spread the word, or even be a Transplant coordinator. Anyways, does anyone know what I should major in to be qualified? I was thinking a psychology major with a minor in public health?

Every one of those jobs you mentinoed takes a different type of degree. I think if you stay on the medical side, you can always move to the administrative side (public education/ management).

As for serving donor families, you would need a social work degree, especially with a focus on grief counseling.

On the clinical side, you can work for a transplant center and be a transplant coordinator or work for the recovery organization doing actual recoveries, hospital coordinator, organ placement...it also depends on how the organ recovery agency is structured, which is different for every single one.

You should call the organ recovery center that serves the area you live in and ask to A. volunteer for them, B. if they offer free training for volunteers, C. If you can get a tour of the facilites and maybe speak with some people about their educational bacground...

how about an MD.................
