Is being a military nurse better than civilian?

i have two years of active duty left as enlisted.i want to travel d world as a nurse.i have an opportunity to do it through the military or use my GI bill when i get out.i am cancerian and military life really scares me.

No one is better. We are all just human, but without you caring loving military nurses, our good men and women would never have the great care they need. To me, any nurse who is loving and caring for the sick, are on the top of my list as awesome. Same as the military, who protect the people of their country. Bless.

I would not say better. But if a military nurse is in more than a few years, they get to do procedures that a civilian nurse would have to specialize in.

Depneds on what you mean by better. Technically/Medically better? No. They went to the same medical colleges. Is what the military nurse does different? You betcha. They, just like the guys on the front line are serving their country. Thank God for them....

Not exactly better except in the training for trauma cases. Medicine is pretty much a need the world round. Getting training in the military is a great start if nothing else then they can fine tune your skills when you get out.

Follow your heart, and it seems like you want to be freeeee! Get out while you can, and become a nurse at a hospital. My friend is a traveling nurse and she loves it, and the pay is awesome, and with your military history, you will get a job easily!!! Military life isn't for everyone.

Use your GI BILL.Just do your time left honorably. Remember the Services is not for ever one. If you are scared of the Military why did you join up in the first place? You have answered the call of duty to your country and can be proud to join the ranks of your Fellow Veterans. Remember one thing your training own the Civilian may not give you the chance to see the world.

i would switch to the Air Force, if your not already in that branch, regardless of what civilian nurse service you get into, you cannot retire in 20 years like the military and when you retire, you can always work as well experienced nurse, because you will have seen more traumatic patients in your career than any civilian nurse has, I would go Air Force and see the world and enjoy my life , try to keep a journal of all the things you have experienced in your career, who knows you may come back and write a book of the life of a military nurse, but don't try to remember all the things, keep a journal, some things may seem too trivial to write down, but remember, sight is not all you encounter, there's smells and sounds and your inter thoughts at the time, that you may not be able to recall
Good Luck
