Did I fall in love with the wrong person? And he still wants to be friends. I probably won't talk to him again

He is 26, a travel nurse. We met in April. Generally he is nice, but sometimes acted strange, distant, moody. He likes really dark movies. We went to NYC together, there he called one of his ex-girlfriends. He asked her that he heard that she was married and then told me that while they were dating, she was also seeing another guy, so he broke up with her. I was surprised and found it pathetic that he would still bother to call her and ask that. In June we broke up, but still remained friends. I had to admit that I fell really hard for him. In July he moved away, but we would talk occasionally, then his phone stopped working and he didn't respond to my emails. Eventually he told me that 4 years ago, he met a girl from Canada and spent a week together. He kept emailing her, wanting to see her. She was distant. He seemed to like women who treated him badly. His parents both have drinking problems, each married 4 times, twice to each other. I think he has low self-esteem

He's wrong for you. The nature of his job should be a strong indicator. He drops into womens lives and then moves on as the jobs come. Very convinient. He's a headache you should be glad you are rid of.

Sad to say, but it seems like if you were to stay with this guy you would just keep getting disappointed.

he's not a bad person and being friends with him isn't wrong, but it seems like he's not a person that can give you the attention you want and deserve.

You can't tell your heart who to love, but you can remind yourself what's best for yourself and what makes you happy. If being with him doesn't make you happy, that should tell you enough right there.

Please don't judge him by his parents and their histories. he's not his parents, and although there is influence, he is his own person. it's not fair to him and to you to blame someone else for his shortcomings.

He's clearly not ready for a commitment, so be with someone who IS ready for you! You deserve much better you sweet thang!
