Pit bull question? |
Hi... My pit bull was playing off leash with a pug/beagle mix, and everything was fun for them until the pug owner handed out some treats, and the pug got a little jealous and bit my pit on the cheek. Thing is, my pit really did not care one bit, she just sorta kept smiling and panting and sitting there with this little guy hanging off her face. We broke them up and said goodbye, no puncture wound or anything. I'm wondering if my pit is... well not slow, but maybe has less nerves or is less sensitive or something, because this guy was chewing on her face. She IS used to some pretty rough play with young children and our cats, and she plays very roughly with her sisters with NO problems, and her temperment is sweet as pie, but should i be concerned that she didn't even growl or try to get the little guy off her face? She just sort of took it as part of the fun and kept that "pit bull smile" on her big face!! ps... she konked right out in the car and slept all night like a baby!! wow this is amazing I own several pit bulls and breed them and even I have never seen this type of behavior in a pit!!!! awesome dog!!! I wouldnt be worried not one bit she is just a sweetheart You must have a great dog ..Not too many other dogs would do that ..Be very proud of her.. Some dogs have a higher threshhold for pain than others. It doesn't mean she's slow or has no nerves it just means she can handle a higher amount of pain than maybe another dog could. I wouldn't consider that slow, just sweet. I would reward her for her behavior, considering she could have killed the pug with one bite if she wanted to be glad she set a good example for her breed! Not too many dogs would react that way to another dogs aggression, I would say you dont have a slow dog you have an excellent dog with an excellent temperament. I have a boxer that is the same way. She always runs into the table corners when we play with her and she does not even care. Be happy about it! I own a pit bull and a rat terrier, pit bulls have a lot of extra skin, you probably know that, but my little rat terrier ( Dixie ) always bites my pit bull ( Belle ) and they were made for fighting, so they have more tolerance for pain. My pit acts the same way. It means she has the perfect pit temperament. They are very sweet good natured dogs. You want people to know how loving they are and you should show her off as often as you possibly can. No that is exactly what you want in a pit bull. It is not true that pit's feel no pain. This proves your pit is not animal aggresive Pit Bulls have been bred to have a high pain tolerance. And the pug and his owners are very lucky you have a well behaved dog, because this could have been a disaster. My brothers dachshund bit my Pit Bull on the nose one day. Luckily my Pit Bull also just stood there until the other dog let go. Now she just ignores her. The Pit Bull's high pain tolerance is what makes them do so well with children. The still feel pain, just as any other breed, but they are better at just ignoring it (when it comes to things like kids climbing on them, or a pug hanging off their cheek..) And Good Job socializing your dog!!! She turned out Very Well! |
