Question about morals?

Most people don't care about there fellow man . So much time is spent in this country via the news , entertainment etc. that make people live in another reality .

Say for example a man is lying in the street with a knife wound , well why would anyone stop ? What obligation do they have ? Sure there is a moral obligation but American morals by and large - are disappearing by the day ! Since there is no moral obligation and no legal one - Why not just walk on by ?

Also because of this dissociation from reality is how we still have a war still going on , corruption etc. etc.

Anyone agree ?

My question focuses on morals disappearing in America , seems like there going away { like sympathy for our fellow man } - sadly .

Yes, I agree.

Not long ago I was visiting another one of my company's offices in another city. I arrived about 10am and almost ran over a homeless man who was passed out in the shadows that crossed the alleyway behind the building. Immediately, I got on my phone and called 9/11 to get him some help and stood by until they arrived so that no one else would run the man over.

My boss and co-workers actually got mad! Telling me he had been there all day and I needed to come inside!

I was astounded that no one had called earlier. The man could have been dead or, even worse, easily run over!

It's situations just as these that we all come across in our lives. The only difference lies in how we react to them. I prefer to watch out for my fellow man, no matter who they may be because I know that there, but for the grace of God, go I.

However, I disagree with your take on the war. I believe that we are still there, not in a war, but at this point, a peace keeping mission and I wholeheartedly agree with our staying there. Because here again, there but for the grace of God go I. Iraqis are entitled to the same gifts that we here in this country maintain on behalf of ourselves. To think otherwise, no matter the cost, is to be unlike God.

"No life's worth more than any other.
No sister worth less than any brother."
-Michael Franti & Spearhead

Another line of Spearhead's that constantly comes to my mind is -

"No matter where I go,
Every living soul is a poem,
Written on the back of God's hand."

Spearhead has a lot of good messages in his music. I am constantly reminded of the plight of others thru him. I highly recommend his Songs from the Front Porch CD,

take care & ty Report It

I am not sure what you are getting at with your question.

agree in part
it all stems from the lack of respect for human life established by roe v wade.
Micheal vich gets more attention for killing dogs than someone killing a human being.

Contrary to popular belief there are still a lot of good people out here! I would stop and help!

You are right I remember back in the 60's prople helped each much more.

The reason we still have a war going on is that there are groups who are trying to destroy two new democracies that we helped establish, one in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.
As far as the knife wound is concerned, I would stop and do what I could, most everyone I know would do the same thing.

It's not black and white issue. Too much of grey areas. No point in discussing it. It takes you round and round.

you are right, most people don't care. The norm is to be a bastard. And its acceptable because there are limited resources on Earth. The outstanding men, the heros, are the few that do.

I agree that the US. morals are declining. However, I don't agree that the war still ongoing due to these declining morals. I think the war is still on going because once you get into a war its hard to start. You cant leave a war with unfinished business, as unresolved issues could lead to a bigger war in the future. Before leaving, it is important to ensure that peace has been established, and that we've earned back the goodwill of the people (which will be really hard to do).

If someone is dying with a knife wound someone might not help, because they don't want to get themselves involved, but there are people out there who have sacrificed their lives to save others. I think the reason why a person should stop and help is because they would want to be helped if they were dying (treat others the way you want to be treated!) Its high time, the educational system started putting more stress on moral education (just like they have started putting stress on ethical education after Enron).

Morality has to have a foundation. Sympathy and empathy are merely feelings and we have no moral obligation to a feeling.

We have the ability to sharpen our feelings or dull them. If we ignore the beggar, eventually we won't even see the beggar.

The only obligation we could possibly owe is to a higher moral authority than just ourselves, i.e. God.

Europeans have an additional set of feelings not shared by Americans and that is feelings based on tradition. As faith in God crumbles in Europe they will coast quite a ways on tradition but without God, Americans have nothing to fall back on.
