Relationship advice please?

I am in a relationship with this guy and it has been rocky for sometime (im a guy too). We are living together and both have issues around getting our point of view across. Often we get in to arguments that will never be solved as we both think we are right. Anyway if we get wound up we try and seperate and cool down, but he has a hard time doing that, he wants the problems solved immediatly. It gets to the point where I am in my room and asking him to leave and he wont. Quite often it gets violent (more often me hitting him). I have never been a violent person and now it is really scaring me that I can hurt someone I care deeply for. Last night it was really bad, I ended up locking my self in the bath room so he couldnt get to me, I just cant talk to him in my state and i end up hitting. I guess I would like some thoughts on if I need to let the relationship go for both our sakes, I know he wont be happy but I feel it is the only thing to do. Any thoughts advice please

I just want to clarify I am the one that is hitting not him. I ask him to leave and talk about things when we all calmed down (not drunk) and he wont. I end up locking my self away so I wont hit him.

Perhaps the first thing you have to realize is that hitting a partner, whether it's in a straight or gay relationship is a form of abuse. Both of you might want to consider getting some serious counselling to sort out your problems instead of trying to figure it out on your own.

How can you hit someone you claim to love. It sounds like you need a little professional help. You have anger issues and really need to work on you before you work on your relationship.
