I have a big cut inside my mouth. How do I keep it clean?

I got elbowed playing basketball and my tooth went through my mouth. The outside got stichted up, but inside is a large oppen wound, about an inch long. I don't want it to turn into a giant canker sore so I want any advice on how to keep it clean an speed up the healing process.

Right now I am rinsing with Peroxyl and sometimes saltwater. Is that good, any other advice for rinses or care please??

keep using the saltwater.
it may sting but it reall helps.

mouth wash?

gargle with a strong bleach

That is pretty much what I would have suggested. Good luck--sorry that happened.

Yer warm saltwater is good.

Also, but only if your old enough, rinse your mouth with some sort of spirit like vodka or whiskey.

Maybe some mouth wash...the alcohol would help kill bacteria.

I think you are supposed to gurgle salt water...

just get a small glass of water, add a little salt and swish it around in your mouth....

Hurts a bit but salt will keep it from going manky. I've tried everything you can buy for mouth ulcers and nothing treats them better than salt (Not in solution, just rub it in and grimace for 2 minutes). I repeat about every 2 hours for a day and then all is well in the morning.

:)

just rinse with water and peroxide mixture

My boyfriend did the same thing his teeth went through his top lip a few weeks ago and he got 9 stitches and they just gave him antibiotics and told him that the mouth will heal pretty well on its own...good luck.

the good news is that the tissues inside the mouth are some of the most rapid healing tissues in our body. I would minimize the rinses to only after you eat. Some of the normal fauna in your mouth aids in healing by providing the right enzymes so you don't want to be rid of all bacteria. The wound inside the mouth will likely heal faster than the wound on the surface of your face.

I think you are doing the right thing using the salt water that defiantly will help heal it faster..

saltwater is very good for any cut so i suggest u keep doing that and dont eat anything that has a spice to it, if u know wat i mean

well, there really is no way to keep it clean
but your saliva should clean the cut out naturally
just avoid eating too much food on that side of your mouth

thats good to use also use mouthwash eat on other side i would try liquid diet salt water is real good it will help heal up better treat it like you just had wisdom teeth removed good luck

OUCH--saltwater? The peroxide should do the trick and keep it from getting infected. Be careful of what you eat and make sure you just rinse not swallow the peroxide. Try keeping your mouth a little open, natural air is a good healer also.

you can try alcohol free mouth wash. it will work the same as salt water, but probably tastes better.

Here in the Philippines, we have a product called Canker Sore Drops. What this does is to cauterize, burn, the flesh chemically to close it... The formulation of these drops consists of Potassium alum and Sodium chloride... you can ask your ENT specialist about similar cauterizing product.

Gargle with warm salt water 2-3 times a day... it'll take a few days but it should calm down.

Rinsing thrice daily with peroxide diluted fifty percent w/water,could do the trick..Be cautious with what you eat...no acidic or spicy foods...no crunchy foods such as peanuts, popcorn etc, which would tend to keep the wound open..and last but not least, no frenching...

Yes, thats fine, do NOT use any mouth wash, this will just burn like crazy, it doesn't do much to heal the wound, stick to warm salt water 2-3 times daily, and peroxyl, if thats what your Dr. recommended. I'd stay away from liquids with alcohols in them, that may burn ur wound.....oh n for pain use some ambisol.....numbing it may help if ur in a lot of pain.

you should go to the doctor to make sure you don't need stitches and they can prescribe you a mouth rinse. that has got to hurt! I guess you won't be eating pizza for a few days!

continue to use saltwater. It is the best rince for your cut. Good luck.

Try not to eat anything really acidic cuz that will irritate your sore. Try taking vitamin C...I had a bunch of canker sores and when I started taking vitamin C they disappeared in a day or two...I know yours isnt a canker sore, but it couldnt hurt, right? I hope it heals up soon..! good luck!
