I found a cat outside my house that was living under my porch.?

it has a wound on its elbow and arm and my mom wont take it to the vet. how should i take care of it so it dont get infected im keeping the cat and i dont want anything bad to happen to it.

ive seen the cat around my house awile ago and i only have one neighbor im surronded by woods and thats where the cat came from ive been feeding it for almost 2 or 3 weeks i asked my mom if i could keep it when i first discovered it but she said no because it was very mean but now its not so shes letting me keep it. should i cover it with anything or leave it open?

Put some peroxide on the wound and do that for a few days. Try to keep it clean. Feed the cat and give plenty of water. If it's feral you may not be able to catch it. Have you checked around to see if a neighbor has lost a cat? Look in the paper and pictures and files at the animal shelter.
Hope you mom reconsiders.
Note: I've used peroxide to clean wounds on my cat and dog. The idea is to kill bacteria on the wound. This will not hurt the cat and it may stop the wound from getting worse. Of course a vet visit is the best action. If you can do it , by all means go. Don't cover the wound.

Witch hazel is less abrasive and kills infection,splash it a few times a day and it should heal just fine if its not to bad Report It

is your mom letting you bring it in the house?? just get some warm water and people hand soap and wash it the best you can, but rinse it well too. do not put any people meds on it though. if he's really bad, then he may get infected and he could die. there is nothing you can do except take to vet if it's bad.

Clean the wound with hydrogen peroxide, then wash it. Then put neosporin on the wound and try to prevent the cat from licking it off for at least a half hour. You can wrap a bandage around it if you like, but the cat probably will remove it.

YES peroxide will hurt the cat.... USe some warm water and salt salt is a naturall healing aid as for the wound with no fur that will happen as the kitten tries to clean it its self it take the fur away not to mention the lil kitten i sonly very young make sure you are feeding it and that you make sure that it is a clean safe environment if you found it in the woods make sure it doesnt have sleas or ticks TICK are the most important as they suck the nutrition and blood out of cats and can become quiet dangerous and cause death and try to convince your mum to take it to the vet it is important the vet does a check on the lil guy as if something is wrong they can treat while keeping it at home is good its not safe if you cant convince your mum try along the line of
If this was me you would have me up at the hopsital making sure i was ok so why is this different just becaus eit is a kitten...
i work in a vet clinic and ive been a vet for nearly 4 years and we use that on most people who become hesitent to bring the animal to the vet...
My opinion it is slack not to take it to the vet but if you ca afford the vet bill which is another eason ring you local vet ask for advice over the phone they are willing to help out and it wont cost a thing...
Take care of the lil guy and make sure you clean his wounds every 4hours during the day and every 6 while he is sleeping thats is about it kiddo

Your mom probably doesn't want to make the cat a household pet, and so doesn't want to take it to the vet.

One of my barn cats got a cut that made a hole that was like a 3/4" to 1" circle, and it scared me because it was already too long and after 8 hours, you really can't stitch it up. My husband told me it would heal fine because cats DO heal fine, and I chose to trust his beliefs.

The cat DID heal just fine. Let me explain what I did... some of which you're doing already.

I cleaned the wound with a solution of Dawn Liquid soap in water because it's mild. I cleaned all the dirt out. Then I took a thin nose scissors and snipped the hair down to the skin all around as I know that hair catching in a wound can either get captured, or slow the healing.

Now, since this cat was my pet, I captured her and put her in my pet room for 2-3 days till I could SEE that the wound was shrinking. You can't do this, I realize, but if the cat lets you handle her, you can check the wound site and keep it clean. What happens is called "granulation". Do a google search and learn more about it. The wound heals when granulation occurs. The tissue under the wound rises up and the wound shrinks to a smaller sized hole. At first you won't see it, but after a time you will.

If you have a kennel or crate you can keep the cat in for the first few days, that may help speed up the healing, but it should heal ok even if you can't contain the cat at all. It just may take a bit longer.

Try to not worry. I worried but it all healed just fine.

Do NOT use peroxide on it as this will prevent healing. If you use Iodine, only do it once, as it will kill any bacteria BUT it will also slow down the granulation which is needed for healing.

If it's a hole in the skin, the kitten probably cut it on something. It's not likely to be from malnutrition. It would be more likely a cut from glass or barbed wire.
