Deep gash on top of dogs head?? |
We have a basset hound and he has a gash on the top of his head. We don't know exactly what caused this but it looks to me like someone actually hit him with something hard! I don't know for sure as he is an outside dog. We live out in the country surrounded by woods so I can't see how anyone could have came back here (especially that close to the dogs) w/out being seen or heard. My husband said it could have been another dog fighting w/ him but this is his only injury! What can we put on it to keep it from getting infected?! It's not deep enough to have stitches so I hate to make a trip to the vet if there is some home remedy to take care of it! Could you use Neosporin on a dog? Excuse my ignorance! =) What could we clean the wound with that won't cause him great pain?! He's such a sweet little dog, I can't imagine anyone wanting to cause him any harm! I'm not really an animal person (the dogs are the kids & husband) but Bubba is a kind & gentle dog. I hate for him to hurt! is it still actively bleeding. You probably want to go the vet if it is. I hope your baby is ok. Has it started to heal? Report It He needs checked for a concussion, clean with just water, neosporin wont hurt him, please have him seen by a vet...can't he live in the house?? he needs to go to the vet - he will need antibiotics. you can use peroxide one time only. Just to be on the safe side,DO take him to the vet, because it may not be deep enough for stitches, but it still needs medication, maybe even a special type. Are you positive that the wound is not deep enough for stitches? You need to flush it out with water and put gauze and a head wrap on him so he cannot take it off. Also, don't let him sleep, unfortunately somebody will have to stay awake and keep him up. Please keep him in the house. You also should take him to the vet as there may be some brain damage or internal damage, even if the cut doesn't seem deep enough and he may have had a concussion. You can clean the wound with peroxide. Pour a cap full over the wound and apply pressure with a paper towel. Apply another cap full and wait a few seconds and dab off the excess. Apply some neosporine and from now on do not leave the dog outside for more than two hours at a time. Leaving him outside exposes him to the elements such as heat, cold, rain, and debris from high winds. He could be injured or infected with disease from another animal, infected with parasites, or abused by an inconsiderate person. There are a number of things that could happen. You really should take him to the vet though. If someone is injuring him you will want a paper trail for injuries or even just to be safe and make sure he is alright. check if the gash has gagged eges if the dog does som1 abused him tell the vet quickly or ull be put in jail 4 not helping him theres gonna be an investigaion on who did it make sure if u hve to wate a while for its check up put achohole on it it will sting but it the only way there could be an infection u must hurry to get the poor dog to the vet so it can get cleaned with speicle meds if u wate too long u will be pressed charges and the dog will be adopted do u hve any aggresive people in ur familly ? u must know if its been a long time that he had that gash it will spred to his ear and the ear will soon turn really red. if ur wondering how i know this i watch animal channel and there was a dog just the same bread and had the same prob but the onwer went to jail for waiting too long and the person who smashed the glass into its head. if u hve anymore questions add me. Get the dog to the vet. Letting a hound run is always a bad idea. He could have sliced himself on barbed wire or sharp metal. With all the wackos and nutcases out there Bubba can end up as a Pit Bull bait dog. Also sold to research for testing....they like the sweet, friendly ones. |
