Cat sick...?

I have a male cat that is 2 years. Recently came back inside from outside with a minor flesh wound on his neck. Vets closed for holidays. Is it serious? How should it be treated for the time being, until Monday when we can get professional care?

Clean it Mela-Gel, after cleaning the wound with water. Then bandage it until it can get checked out, good luck.

Clean it with peroxide, and then put polysporine on it.

Well, if by serious you mean life threatening no. However it could become serious if left untreated. Find a mild antiseptic, preferably tea tree oil, since its natural and won't harm the cat much. Diulte the tea-tree oil in warm water and apply with a cotton bud on the wond. Get a bandage, material or so forth, make sure its clean and apply it not very tight on the cats neck. Don't Don't let your cat move out of your site for a period of 24hours until the antigens, antibodies and plateletes clot the wound, in the healing process.

Note you can use many other antiseptics, but make sure it is not very strong. Cats are different to humans.

If you do not have a emergency animal hospital that is open 24/7 in your area, you can call your vet and he will come to the office. It will cost you extra, but your cat needs care RIGHT NOW before it gets infected.

My biggest concern would be if the injury was caused by your male cat fighting with another male. Is your cat neutered? If a female is in heat, tomcats will often fight. This is the main cause for the transmission of feline AIDS and HIV - saliva to blood contact between fighting males. Has your cat received the proper vaccinations to prevent this? Any cat who has access to the outdoors should absolutally receive this! Or better yet, don't let your cat out at all. It's not necessary for a cat to be allowed out - they actually live longer and healthier lives if they are allowed to remain as indoor pets only.

Until your cat can see a vet, clean the injury with antiseptic (Bactine is a good one, as it is also an analgesic). Clean and dry the wound. If it is a deep puncture, you will definitely want the vet to look at him ASAP, as you will probably want to put him on a cycle of antibiotics.

Probably a blood blister. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If it doesn't go away in a couple of weeks then you should probably see a doctor.
