Vet says dog has bone cancer.?

My dog has a large tumor growing between his spine and right hip. There was a biopsy sent to the U. of Ks. Vet school. It came back as bone cancer. The tumor, after the biopsy, began to grow so large that it began to bleed through the healed incision. We took the dog back to the vet. She opened the wound and cleaned out the old blood. When we picked him (the dog) up the incision was left open about 2 inches. He was given antibiotics and we were told to call her if he starts hurting. He still eats well but is losing lots of weight. The wound area still drains blood so I guess this keep the pressure from building. We will put him down when he acts like he is hurting. Can anyone think of anything else to do.
We could have the tumor removed, we would have to take him to the U. of Ks Vet School. It would cost thousands and we were told it would do no good. We were also told that radation would not help. So should we put him down now or just take good care of him until him time is up.

My german shephard had the same thing and we chose to let him live and I wish we hadn't. He actualy lived for about two years afterwards, but the last year was the worst. He couldn't hardly walk , he lost weight, and he was miserable. I just couldn't do it to my girls and to him. The last two weeks he began spitting up blood and it was horrible. If i had to do it over again I would have put him to sleep to begin with and saved him the pain. I just didn't want to live without him. I miss him every day and so do my girls, but I just hate that he suffered like that because I didn't make the right decision. I'm begging you to do what is right.

I am so sorry you can't really do any thing

The better for your dog is to make him sleep for ever. No suffering for your dog or for you/. I am sorry.

im so sorry thats upsetting

Very sorry to read about your dog. I am assuming he has been a good pet and loving member of the family for many years. I would put the dog down before it was suffering, he is owed that much.

Oh I am so sorry for you, losing a pet is as bad as a child because I love my pets like I love my kids. If your dog is in no pain, if he still has some quality of life, I would wait until you notice a difference in his behaviour. They usually "give up" way before we do and you will notice him not as attentive, not eating, and sleeping a lot more. I just put down my 17 year old cocker spaniel- she couldn't walk on her back legs and hopped but her one front leg gave out and I will never forget how she looked at me that night, she KNEW and she looked at me like Im ready to go now and I took her the next day, laid on the floor with her literally face to face holding her head in my hands as they injected her she didn't flinch and she died very peacefully. It was hard on me to be able to do that but, she gave me 17 years of unconditional love and my being strong for her moments left was the most important thing I can do for her. I will cherish those moments forever.

HI Preston!

go on line and type natural medicines for bone canc er in dogs. I recently lost my GOlden to lymphoma and we tried alot of natural medicines. Our dog was old already (15) so basically it was to make him comfortable. THere are alot of things you can try. also talk to a natural homeopathic person. alot of vitamins are good. garlic and supplements like that. think of the things that are good for the bones. I hope you get answers and things go well for you. The love we have for our animals helps us search for answers. Good luck

I have been doing a lot of research on cancer because my Mom has terminal lung cancer whihc has spread to her bones. We are undergoing treatment at a clinic in the Bahama's and thankfully she has made improvement since we arrived.

In my research I have found a treatment that works for dogs as well as humans that I am very interested in and have research extensively for a few weeks.

It is cesium chloride/DMSO. You mix the two together and spread it on the skin, it is quickly absobed in to the body and has been proven to have profound results.

The best supplier I have found is www.essence-of-life.com. More specifically for a dog is: http://www.essense-of-life.com/info/phth...

But, I would say call first. Larry, is very knowledgeable and will tell you how best to use it for your specific case. It seems a little expensive, but nothing more than your vets have already charged and cheap when it means you could have your beloved baby for years to come.

Good luck to you and your best friend!
Kris

I am so sorry about this. I would seek a second opinion with another veterinarian - call and ask for a consult about cancer and bring all the test results you can. You may hear something different from another person.

In addition, maybe you can try the below link to locate a holistic vet in Kansas (my test search showed a number of holistic vets in the state). Holistic medicine for animals has really taken off in the past few years (I even got my dog acupuncture for allergies after steroids - the common treatment - weren't working out). Maybe there are alternative treatments you can try for cancer.

Best of luck to you all.
