Why is global warming ignored?

The oceans are dying this is a fact. The lands fresh water is contaminated-no water no life! And why is it that we don't take the right steps on solar and wind sorces? Why is it that we care more for killing in a war than survival?

Well first of all big business doesn't want to recognize global warming because they would have to completely change the way their products are manufactured and it would cost them a fortune. People in the general population feel pretty much helpless to stop it and/or are in total denial about it. Seems to me that no one thinks about future generations anymore. Today it's an all about me society.

Humans are like that. They never cherish anything until they've lost it. Global warming is no exception.

in UK it is not

in the rest of the world it is

why, is it hot?

Too many people don't care about the environment. They don't realize what they are causing.

First of all, the oceans are not dying. Secondly, the earth is warming up, and it has been for about 10,000 years, since the end of the last Ice Age. We may really be approaching "normal" now, and to imagine that we, as a species, either cause it or can do anything about it, is pretty silly.

because 3/4 of the earth's population is stupid.america makes up most of those 3/4 and we're the most powerfull

It's not ignored -- thousands, if not millions of people are doing all they can to prevent it, or at least slow it down. It's just the fact that people are too lazy to help out the Earth. They think that if they trash just one soda can, instead of recycling it, it won't make any difference. Guess what? IT DOES.

And the killling/war/Iraq thing.. that's like all Bush.

it is because most people think they have more important priorities in life and also the situation is not alarming yet to them and partly they have this shocking thinking: i will not be the only one who will suffer, so why do i give a damm.

Because of good ole Bush---------as leader of this powerful country, he had the ability to work toward possibly changing things. He chose to ignore it. Tho, he did recently say he wants the polar bears put on the endangered species list because of melting ice where they live.. He has at least finally admitted it is happening.

For the single mom struggling to work two jobs to take care of her children, becoming alarmed about global warming is far down on her list of things she needs to do on a daily basis just to keep her head above the water.

The middle class may talk about it, but as long as their gravy train keeps pulling into their station there is no personal motivation for them to do anything about it.

Laws could have changed things a long time ago to prevent the biggest offenders in creating global warming - companies\factories - but if the truth be told, laws are made to protect the biggest criminals there are - the owners and CEOs of those companies and corporations. They are the ones that have the money to pay off the people that make and pass the laws. They are also the ones that keep lobbyist and lawyers as lap dogs to make sure their will is imposed on the rest of the world.

The bottom line?

WE THE PEOPLE allow it.

Money is the source of all sorts of evils. So is the lack of it. Global warming is a reality, but the solution, reducing carbon emissions dramatically while simultaneously increasing carbon absorption (by cultivating more plants, instead of cutting down trees and burning them) will be hugely costly. If you do the math on carbon-free "hydrogen economy", the results are incredibly expensive. A high percentage of the world's population struggles daily for the basics of survival and can't afford wind generators, solar panels, etc., much less newer, more efficient cars, better home insulation, you name it. And, despite decades of warnings, population continues to grow. As long as it's hugely expensive and very inconvenient, little will be done until we are hurting at a crisis level (when Manhattan, Miami and parts of L A are under water, Americans will notice!). Americans and Europeans are the worst, but China is hurrying to catch up as their economy booms.

We can see solutions, but we don't have the money to implement them.

jkc194530 IS correct. We are in a normal earth-evolution cycle. Because we live (generally) less than 100 years, modern man has not been able to personally judge the cyclic evolution.

Fear not....it is not an individiual responsibility. Sure, we do many negative things to contaminate the planet, but compared to the eons, it is nothing. Even so, we must make an effort to eliminate as many of the current contaminants as possible.
