Male bearded dragon , mangled my female dragons arm. What can I do to help her? |
I am an animal lover. These are my husbands reptiles. I have no clue on how to really care for these dragons. I read up on them but never came across anything about this. So far since the incident, they have been seperated. I also flushed out her wound with a mix of peroxide and water. I wanted to make sure her wound was free and clear of sand . I hope that was a good call b/c I had to do something. I also applied an ointment called resortin...I had no choice. I was given this by my vet for my dog who had a wound. It's the only thing I had to put on her....I am going to clean her wound in the morning and when I get home at night. Is there anything else I can do? I told my husband that we needed to call the vet , but he doesn't think they can help her and is affraid that it will be costly. I have done all that I could do and know that there's a better way. Can someone please help me? I care a lot about these reptiles . Definitely take her to the vet if it's mangled. If you absolutely can't afford it, then you can try this. Take her off sand immediately and put newspaper down in her cage, it will help keep the wound clean. If you can, buy Betadine (a povidone-iodine solution and can be found OTC at most pharmaceutical stores) and wash the wound out really well with a diluted mixture. Let that soak on her for awhile, and do this once, even twice daily for about a week. Then, swab a little bit of neosporin or some type of antibiotic ointment onto the wound. If the wound is a gaping wound that keeps opening up every time she moves, you might want to try getting some non-stick gauze and lightly wrapping the gauze and ointment treatment with some vet wrap but only for a few days. The air will do well to help heal once a nice scab base has started. Good luck! I hope this helps. vet. Go to the vet. It won't cost you anything to call the vet for advice. More than likely they will want you to bring the reptile in to be treated. The enclosure is a breeding ground for bacteria and the wound needs to be treated properly. Keep the wound clean, and call the vet. If it is bad enought, bring the poor thing to the vet. |
