When can I start using mouthwash?

About 4 or 5 days ago, I got two more teeth extracted of my left part of my mouth: one up, one down. Thankfully i have removed all 4 I need!

I always incorporate mouthwash into my daily oral care, but I have been told that if the wound doesn't close completely that using mouthwash will burn and maybe it will open the wound in my gums. Is this true?

Also, I should mention that the part of my gums are sealing, but there is still a LITTLE bit that hasn't closed yet and my mouth is not dripping blood or anything like that.

Oh, and the mouthwash I use is a Crest mouthwash, it's very mild, but can I use one more tough, like Listerine?

Please help! In advance, thank you.

I recently had two teeth extracted too. I still have my instructions. It says that after 24 hours you should be okay to rinse again but only with salt water (1/4 tsp. salt per 4 oz. water). It says that you should do that 4-5 times daily, but don't 'swish' just hold the water in your mouth. It also says you shouldn't use straws or smoke for the first 24 hours. However, it doesn't say anything about mouthwash. I was using Act mouthwash. It doesn't have any alcohol in it and freshens me up just as well. I haven't stopped using it as a matter a fact. I remember the oral hygienist telling me that Listerine shouldn't be used in particular for at least a week, week and a half because the high alcohol content would loosen up the clot on your gum.

I hope that helps!

When your breath stinks

Check eith dentist, but I would wait a bit longer, til totally sealed, why take chance on pain,

i would talk to the dentist. I was told to use listerine instead of crest because the alcohol in listerine does a better job of killing germs and fighting gum disease. I would think the listerine would help your wounds heal and keep them clean

I would ask the dentist and see what they recommend.

A few more days, give your wounds to heal, to be on the completely safe side.

When getting teeth extracted, I was always told "No spitting, smoking, or sucking on straws." Its all about pressure, allowing the wound to heal. If you swish hard, it might open up. Maybe swish gently. Or just hold it in then spit. At least it'll kill the germs in your mouth. Good luck.

There is one that my dentist gave me that is professional grade, and it really does a good job. It tastes a little strong at first but after you rinse a couple of times it doesn't really taste bad. It tastes better than Listerine and it works a lot better.
I don't see why you can't rinse your mouth if it doesn't bother you.

you can you listerine and different sort of mouth washes it wont hurt your gums its cleaning your gums and making your breath smell nice and fresh....so yeah..

after have my wisdom teeth remove I was told to wait 24 hours before rinsing
