I was just typing this long response to one of the trolls who frequent the LGBT thread...?

...and suddenly it struck me, "Why bother?"

I mean, what's the cardinal rule when a bully starts picking on you? Ignore them and they'll get bored and move on, right? Unless they're actually getting physical with you, and nothing online approaches more than school yard taunts, why give them the satisfaction? So yes, we could beat them back with validation for why we deserve this and that but, c'mon, we know they don't care. They are here to wind us up, no other reason. They aren't capable of learning or compassion. I'd call them animals but even animals are capable of learning.

They read our responses and laugh that they got to us enough to go off. Personally, I'm not going to give them the satisfaction anymore, at least I'm going to try not to. Doesn't it make more sense though? If I thought it would make a difference, that I could reach and change someone, I'd keep it up but at this point I realize it's all sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Although agreed that they can leave you feeling ''like a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage''. I think you either have to ignore them or just give it back to them.

I agree, I wouldn't bother with the trolls that take pleasure in riling people up. They are obviously little wimps that will get bored easily and move on. You can't educate them or get them to understand, so there is no sense in wasting energy on them.

I have found the best thing to do is laugh at them and possibly make a small statement about their ignorance, and move on.

Selectively target the ones whose weaknesses and insecurities you have managed to pick up on (e.g., Tara J.'s separation from her children--oh, I'm so mean). Then clobber them below the belt.

This sounds better than praying to God or some diety to cast lightning down those trolls... :)

You say that this person is narrow minded and isn't capable of learning or compassion. But it sound like you are the same way in your thought process. You have to know by now that there are a bunch of people out there that do not agree with your way of life and instead of bashing them you should be more understanding of their views and not be so narrow minded.
