What should I do about my neighbors lack of care for her pets?

She has a dog and a cat and I'm just so frustrated that she doesn't take care of her pets! Why is she allowed to own a pet she doesn't take care of, she lets the dog run loose, I almost ran it over the other day. I've been feeding the cat because it comes into my yard and drinks out of my pool... and it's soo thin and hungry and NOT neutered!

Would it be wrong of me to take the cat to my vet and get it neutered, shots, dewormed, flea dipped, etc... the works! She won't do it and there are too many feral cats in the neighborhood as it is.

We live by a park where people just dump their animals and it is so sad... I can't even count how many times dogs have walked up to us when we are in the yard... freezing cold from the rain & wind... beautiful sweet dogs but I can't keep them, so I have to call animal control and hope they get adopted.

Any advice???

p.s. I'm allergic to dogs and cats (break out with hives) s

Even though the dog is in my yard every day, I can't get close to her because she has been kicked so many times by the neighbor. As far as the cat goes, I could keep it as an outside cat only as I am allergic to both cats and dogs (had to give away my sweet loving indoor cats). This really just breaks my heart!!!

Reporting abuse to animals is really your only recourse, it is not legal for you to treat her animal in a non emergency situation. If you had hit the dog, you could legally take it to the vet and you would be the one to pay the bill, but the maintence stuff not legal. Support your local Humane Society and other Adoptive shelters so the resourses are there so all the animals get a better chance of adoption....

annouytumsly report her. she may just have to pay a fine at worst, but the best part is the animals will be saved

I admire your convictions to be responsible. Very much.
Have you talked to the neighbors, or are they real dumb ones?
If you do have poor kitty tended to and undertake the responsibility are you going to return cat to them or place in a good life-long home?
Perhaps, contact a local No-Kill rescue society/organization who will aid those animals and the dogs that are out there fending for themselves too.
I am affiliated with a few such non-profit animal rescue places and the volunteers all have good hearts like yours and donations which would pay for vet bills if needed.
Just a suggestion for you to look into.
Gd. luck.

If it were me i would take the animals to a animal recue center in the next town over. that way if she goes to the shelter looking for them she wouldn't find them. then if she decides to get new animals and treats them the same i'd keep anonimously calling the pound on her until she finally got rid of them. or just keep taking them to the animal rescue.

I agree, this woman needs reporting ASAP.

I think that it is wonderful that you are considering taking the cat to the vet...BUT if you do & don't report this neighbor then they might not learn a lesson and continue getting more animals!
I understand & sympathize with your problem of people dropping their unwanted out close to your house, we have the same problem & we too have had to take many dogs & cats to the local animal shelter. The good news is that MANY shelters are partnered with foster homes!

either report her to rspca for cruelty,or you could get done, but it will still need love and food and sounds like she not bothered

If shes a close neighbour to you (your good friends with them) tell her your concerned and that you want her to try a different way of looking after them! If your not so close then just check up on them (if they are around) make sure they look healthy if you see them...if they dont then tell your neighbour that she should go to the vets everyonce in a while just to make sure shes doin everything right! =] If it dosent work then tell someoone else e.g. your mum or a friend cuz theymight have some ideas too!

i called Peta on my neighbor for neglecting their dog. they were given flea medication, food, and a doghouse. and they came out to talk to the people and gave them all this stuff. i did it anonymously.

call the animal control

You should report her to the rspca they'll look after her pets she might even be sent to jail for animal abuse i think that the rspca will let you go and visit the animal when you want

I admire your care for the cat and dog even though (and i feel truly sorry for you here) your allergic to them.
its neccasairy that you let the RSPCA know imdeiatly about this as then they can come an dcheck things out and that way even if it means your neighbour hates you, you will have potentially saved the lives of two helpless animals. your neighbour will be fined or possible worse and i can tell you seem a very lovely person and wouldnt want to cause any trouble but its vital that you do contact the RSPCA or a simaliar animal charity/police as soon as possible!

Good Luck
