People with ASTHMA: how do u take care of your health and prevent attacks during cold winters/cold winds?

i am Asian and i plan to migrate to a country that experiences zero degrees Celsius during winters. I have asthma that can be triggered by cold winds and cold weather. How do u effectively protect yourselves from having asthma attacks? How do u prevent inhaling cold air into your lungs to prevent attacks when u are exposed outside? or when u r exposed to such cold air that u can inhale and trigger attacks???? Also, what effective clothing do u wear? What are the materials of such clothings and where do u buy them?
Thanks to all those who will give sincere answers........

First of all, I do all I can to prevent being out too long in it. I have the same physical reaction to cold. If I have to be out, I attempt to wear something over my mouth and nose so that I am breathing air that is warmed by my exhalations.

I also have purchased disinfectant hand wash that I carry with me when in public, the same as surgeons and doctors use in hospitals. After being in contact with areas of high exposure, ie: shopping carts, door handles, buses, etc, I simply rub it on my hands and it has helped a great deal. It kills germs and viruses on contact.

I have found that any extra layers I can wear help also, thin layers of extra shirts or undergarments make a difference in keeping the wind out and from reaching your skin. I dont hesitate to wear thermal insulated garments when its needed in the winter months.

Personally, I have found that down garments are very warm, but...after they have been washed, I tend to have asthmatic reactions to them. I suspect mold forms on the down and that is evidently one of my allergens, probably is for many.

Goretex, thinsulate, good items that protect your throat and neck area during cold winds. Turtlenecks may not always be fashionable but they are WARM against the wind and thats all that matters. Scarves are excellent for wrapping around your face also. :) Good luck!!

just carry your inhaler with you at all times

For me i take my abuteral before any situation that i could get asmatha.

There are actually medicine that you can take daily that are supposed to prevent asthma attacks from occurring. Right now im taking something called asthmanex. Idk if it actually works because i have exercise asthma, and I havent actually exercised for a long time lol...

Hey, i am a Singaporean studying in America right now. I have been through all the 4 seasons in America. I have asthma too..

When going outside, please use a scarf or something to cover your nose & mouth so that you breathe through it. (pls use a clean cloth NOT rag!!)..
Always carry your Albuterol (USA) or Salbutamol (S'pore) inhaler with you at all times. Try to avoid those allergens that you know and take your preventer medications daily. I have been prescribed with seretide (preventer) inhaler; 2 puffs twice daily and it works very well for me.
Go to any store which sells winter clothing (not those cheap fake china goods!!)..

HTH.. :-)

I have three inhalers and a nebulizer. You Asians wear a face mask, that's really a smart idea to ward off some of the cold air and, help prevent the spread of germs. The North Americans should take a lesson from it.

Wear warm clothing, no matter what others wear or say, dress with what makes you comfortable.
Keep your feet dry and warm. If your indoors IE: doctors office etc, take your coat off so you don't over heat.

Eat a proper diet, this also is a problem here. Everyone is in a hurry and eat fast foods, lots of fats and roughage.

At the first sign of a cold or asthma, take a preventive or a treatment. Drink lots of liquids and keep the air in your living quarters about 40% for moisture.
