The scab on my dog's neuter wound fell off?

I've had my dog for 8 days now, I got him from the shelter and the "guidelines for caring for the pet after surgery" say to remove the e-collar after 5-7 days. The wound was healing great until the scab fell off today and it doesnt look infected, it is just exposed now. The stitches are buried beneath the skin so he hasn't busted them open--it is just now I dont want him to lick it--should I still leave the collar on him? Like I said it has been 8 days since surgery and the wound healed up fine. Now that the scab fell off and is exposed again, do you think it can still get infected?

You've done a great job he'll heal up. Distract him if you notice him taking an interest there. Call your vet if you're worried because there's no such thing as a dumb question about your dog.

Thank-you for neutering your pup!

The scab coming off, indicates that it is healing; I'd go ahead and take the collar off since there is no sign of infection. When does he go back to have the stitches removed? Did you not get after-care instructions? If not, call them.
PS - he's going to lick it sometime no matter what; it's what dogs do.

I do them all the time and don't usually have scabs.

8 days I take it you got him from a shelter? Just run him by and let someone look at it. It doesn't need to be a vet Im sure anyone there could tell you if you need to worry.

The dog will enjoy the ride and they will think you care and it was a good adoption.
