My dog has a small dog bite wound on its tail what should i do?

my dog got attacked by a pitbull and she was bitten in the tail. the bite isnt big just a small hole but big enough to worry about. i put some syptic on it to stop the bleeding. but i dont know if i should just leave it alone or take it to the vet because it might get infected. i dont really want to go to the vet for something that small because the last time she had something like that the vet told me was alright and charged my mom nearly $300 and all he did was just look at it and did nothing and she got real mad because of that . do you think the wound is serious enough to warrant medical care?

(please just answer my question and not give me a judgmental opinion about how i shouldn't have a dog if i cant take it to the vet thats just wat im trying to avoid my mom told me the vet is only for EMERGENCY'S and wont pay for something that small after wat happned last time at the vet (read above).

OK it's one thing to not use the vet but you must know the proper care for wounds like this! NEVER EVER STOP UP A PUNCTURE BITE HOLE WOUND!!!!!

Take the dog to the bath tub and wash the styptic out with warm soapy water and get it ALL out! Use Hydrogen peroxide if you have to, to be sure it is opened up again. You want the wound so washed out that you can see that it may bleed a little again. Then EVERY DAY wash that wound out so that it doesn't scab over and swell up with pus. IT MUST STAY DRAINED to heal right! AND never cover a puncture wound again. Bleeding actually serves a purpose and that is to cleanse the would of germs. You need to wash the wound out for at least 3 days straight and up to a week, depending on the size, then let the wound heal UNBANDAGED!

Just take her to the vet to make sure she is okay.

Go to another vet if you don't like the one you went to last time.

its something called a VET

It doesn't sound like there were puncture wounds or blood. If not, my guess is the other dog was playing, or at least trying to. Dogs tend to mouth each other when playing, and scratches and small bumps can/do sometimes happen.

Still, the other dog has some very irresponsible owners. Not only was the dog out off leash, but was apparently unsupervised. Maybe it got out of the yard and was lost, but I know that if it were my dog I'd be in panic if that happened and would be posting signs, searching, etc. to find my lost pet.

Maybe you could just put a plaster on if or something for now to stop it bleeding?

there is an antiseptic you can purchase it is called true blue and is especially for animals... hope she is well soon, good luck.

Vet is the correct answer to the disease of your pet. as precautionary care for its health and off all, please do not wait, your pet is suffering. you must go to vet.

cut it off

Keep the scab off the hole because it needs the air and needs to drain out any infection it might have..
Also use peroxide on the wound...
You need to make sure that nothing gets in it as well..
If it begins to get infected you will know...
It will have a fowl odor and lots of puss will be draining out of it..Then you may need to see the vet because that means it is an abscess and that's not good..
That can cause your animal to get very sick and even die because all that infection starts traveling through the blood of the dog which is pretty much a toxin...
Not trying to scare you but just let you know the consequence of not giving the dog proper treatment if necessary...
My cat had an abscess and it opened up pretty big but I kept peroxide on it and kept it open for it to drain...
but he did have to be on antibiotics to fight the infection..
He had another open wound, about the size of a dime..but did not require any vet attention ... I just picked the scab a couple times to let anything drain out and use peroxide and he's walking around again being a little snob :) ..
So pretty much what I'm saying is to just look out for infection..Email me if you have any questions..I deal alot with animals..

Are you sure it was a Pit Bull? Do you really know one if you were to see this type of dog?

No matter...any bite should be seen by a vet!!

just keep it clean and keep an eye on it some neosporin woule help too just don't let the dog lick it

You should keep the wound very clean and i agree on the peroxide. Smell the wound to make sure it does not start to smell bad. If you do need to see a vet I would recommend the humane society. Their prices are resonable and if necessary they will set up a payment plan. Just because a vet is expensive does not mean he is good. Dont be afraid to call around asking prices.

put the dog to sleep
