How do you care for a dog that has been cut and has an open wound?

How do you care for a dog that has been cut and has an open wound?

If the wound is too deep it will require sutures and therefore will have to be seen by a vet. If you don't feel it needs stitched up, you can care for it at home. Just make sure you keep the area clean. Use a triple antibiotic ointment on the wound to help prevent infection. There is a product that you can purchase at your local pharmacy called Corona. It is a salve made for animals that works great. You can also use it for your own cuts and scrapes. It has many uses around the home and is non toxic. If your dog licks it he will not get sick. If you apply the ointment and your dog licks it all off, cover the would with a bandage. If it starts to look infected, seek medical attention. Good luck!

Treat with antiseptic and place pad on the wound, get one of those bandages for sprains (the tan elastic kind with a clip) and wrap and clip it around the pad.

After treating take to vet if it does not heal, or if deep, go immediately to the vet.
