Wound infection in dog. What to do?? |
My dog was attacked by a bigger dog on Aug. 17. She came home from the vet on Aug. 24. She's got a few open wounds from drains they had to put in. She's on antibiotics and pain meds. I have to do daily wound care which consists of spraying her wounds with peroxide. This morning I noticed that one of her wounds has some greenish/yellow drainage. Does this mean that it's infected? Can I do anything to treat it myself or should I contact her doctor? Thanks. I would start off by cleaning the wound with Q-tips and peroxide. Once the wound and the drainage are cleaned, apply some triple antibiotic ointment to the area - I'd do this three or four times per day. If the infection isn't looking better in a day or two then YES, call the vet back. If this technique is going to work then you should start seeing results w/i 24 hours. Good Luck contact the vet...you dont want to mess with infections of any kind on pets....the vet should know what to do...good luck... Contact the vet. He will want to know of any changes such as this in her condition, and may want to try a different antibiotic. I would definetly contact the vet. green yellow drainage usually equals an infection, some types of "bugs" that cause infection work better with certain antibiotics, may need different or stronger one. to be one the safe side call the vet yes it is infected. You can get some polysporn from a pharmacy (people pharmacy) and put that in 2-3 times a day. My cat had been attacted by an animal and we put polysporn on it and it healed by its self with no vet. call the vet and ask Definitely sounds like an infection. Call the vet that cared for her when she was hurt. He may tell you to bring her in tomorrow when the office is open or he may want you to take her in to be seen today. For now, I would continue with the peroxide. contact your vet.. the greenish / yellowish drainage means shes getting it out of her system but at the same time means some kind of poisnous infection.. Please contact your vet,,,,,a follow-up visit is required here... yellow green drainage is an infection. get your dog back to the vet and get a different antibiotic. if you try to fix this yourself it could become septic and the poison could spread throughout your dogs body, so please go back to the vet. In this case... I would contact a vet. If it (the wound) was in such a place where you could put on some neosporin and it would not lick it off, you could do that but the problem is that the dog would find some way to LICK IT OFF. ALWAYS contact the vet if it is under care for something!!!!! IF she is on antibiotics, there is probably not much more they will do, and infection is expected in a situation like this, but it is best to consult the treating vet!!!!!! the greenish yellow drainage is an infection coming out, the vet should have told you about it, take your dog back to your vet hon. Holy cow! Get your dog to the VET. got to the vet again......or a puppy hospital...it may cost tons o money but.......it might have to get surgery dog first aid is very similar to human first aid and you should bathe the wound every hour with lightly salted tepid water but be careful as this will sting a little and dogs do not like this and may snap if it has a slight attitude problem or bad temper please take her back to the vet for a follow up It is very possible that you can handle the different infection, but since you have already invested in vet, please call him. Make sure she is drinking really go. Helps with the temp. Good luck. Call the vet and check for sure-greenish or yellow drainage usually always means infection though..I wouldn't take the risk of doing it myself and waiting to see if it gets worse.... |
