Horse wound? |
my horse scraped her face today pretty bad and I went and bought a lot of badages and wound care stuff.Do I need to give her an antibiotic shot.I don't know how but will try if I need to. You need to cleanse the wound very thoroughly with soap and water and then rinse it very well. Applying a topical antibiotic ointment will protect the wound from infectious bacteria. call the vet Hmm... try calling your local vet. Vets can help with wounds like that. Good luck with your horse. =^) You can clean the wound, but please don't try to treat it yourself. While loving your horse and trying to help her is good, you would hate to make it worse. Ask a vet. Just make sure he/she doesn't get infected. my aunt is a pharmacist at walgreen's and said use horidian cream for scrapes so it does not get infected or anything happens and i think its the most reliable stuff you can get anywhere it is red and comes in a bottle i use it also so i know and trust me this is a professional answer Horses have very different injury attention needs from humans, so you may want to call a vet to come out and tend to the wound and let them giveer her the proper antibiotic if one is needed. Our vet makes house calls for large animals. She will need the wound cleaned, although horses do have incredible immune systems. Definitely at least call the vet. You can clean the wound with hydrogen peroxide and then bandage it up (don't get it in her eyes or nose). The sooner someone sees her the better!!! Do not try to fix it yourself! Right now you don't know what state it is in, although it is probably just a scrape. Clean it up and don't ride her until the vet says it is ok. If you ride her you are likely to kick up dust or dirt and that could infect the wound. Horse doctor to help. call the vet and ask Your best bet is to call the vet. They will ask you about the wound, and judging by your description, can give you a plan of action. If, as you say, it is just a scrape, they will most likely tell you hot to treat it (scrub with betadine, top with nitrofurazone ointment) and then tell you what problem signs to look out for. If it is a bigger/more serious wound/penetration they may deem it necessary to inspect your horse right away and administer treatment. If you are worried about costs, a phone call doesn't cost anything, and you will get proffessional advice. |
